In-medium tributes: Can you think of instances where fans/players have died and been memorialized in some way in a show or game (if you can think of other forms where this has happened go right ahead)? Examples would be Leyla Harrison (X-Files) or Dak "Caylee" Krause (World of Warcraft).

It's customary for each graduating class to present a class stone which is ceremonially imbedded in this path-way at my high school; somehow I got roped into getting the one for '08, and since I have less than a month to figure this out, I could really use some ideas! [more inside]

A few friends are coming to visit me in San Diego next week. We want to spend a few days in L.A. walking around, seeing the sites, and going to the getty. Is it a bad idea to go this Sunday and Monday on memorial weekend? I'm worried that the crowds will be larger than normal and some of the stuff will be closed down. We could definitely post-pone it till later in the week. Please let me know what you L.A. folk think, thanks!

Say I want to make my name ring out through the ages. What is the best way, for a few grand or so, to make sure that I am remembered for as long as possible? Going for great achievements seems ambitious and too much work, and I am not interested in being known for great crimes. I am thinking more along the lines of the old statues-in-the-desert angle. Any ideas?

How do you set up a memorial fund? A friend's father died suddenly and she'd like to set up a fund for his grandchildren's education and allow people to make contributions in lieu of flowers or whatever. Googling just gets me lots of links to other people's memorial funds, so I'm hoping some of you have been through this and can provide specific advice, steps to follow, liability issues, etc. Thanks!

Memorial / Activist Art: Where in the world are there public, physical memorials of any kind (sculptures, murals, installations, etc.) for individuals who were killed by police or by governments? I'm really inspired by the Omofuma Stein in Vienna (a self-funded/DIY granite sculpture, first installed guerilla-style in front of the Vienna Opera House and now permanently installed in Vienna's Museumsquartier) and I want to document/celebrate similar projects elsewhere in the world.

In South Boston, at the intersection of Babe Ruth Rd and Columbia Rd near Carson Beach, there's a stone memorial. There are four names inscribed in it, along with ages (all between 16 and 20) and date of death (all June 19, 1982). There's no explanation, besides a mournful poem. What's the story? [more inside]

GriefandConsolationFilter: I (perhaps too quickly) volunteered to help assemble a memorial scrapbook for a woman who works for the same company as me, and who was murdered by her boyfriend a few days ago. I never met her and I hear she was very nice, so I'm fishing for any good poems, quotes, and or ideas. She was young (24) and died too soon but since we never met, I'm at a loss. All suggestion appreciated muchly.

So, a murder happened in front of my house while we were on vacation last week. Now there is a shrine there around my tree about 5 feet from the bottom of my steps and people coming by day and night leaving stuff and lighting candles.
I don't mind the shrine, but how long do I leave that stuff there? How can I get people to not leave candles burning there (I am worried about fire danger.) Am I responsible for disposing of the stuff?
I have some ideas, but would like some suggestions.
Here's a link to the info about the murder.
