Greetings - I "inherited" a MacBook Pro last year. It was a Apple MacBook Pro Core 2 Duo 2.4Ghz from Spring 2008. So it was 4 years old when I got it and I was told that the battery was dead and as long as I kept it plugged in, it worked fine, however, I would need a new one. So last year, I purchased a new battery and installed it.
However, I am still noticing that the battery life is horrible. It seems like when I am using it to type a document or check emails and surf the web, etc, I literally can watch the battery drain. I would assume that it might hold a charge of about an hour and a half maybe?
Is there any way I can "test" it to see what my actual battery life if? To ensure there isn't something else going on? Any suggestions would be helpful. Thanks,

My Macbook used to give me a low-battery warning before it went to sleep: now, before the battery indicator even turns red, it just powers down without warning, and I'll lose anything I had open and was working on. What happened?

I need to buy a new battery for a 2006 white Macbook, and I am afraid of buying a knock-off that will explode, burn down my house, and kill me and my family. Where is a good, reputable, place to buy a new battery?

Is this laptop battery a ripoff, and how can I be sure? I bought a third party battery for my Macbook. It looks like the original 45Wh battery, but Coconut Battery (and the appropriate ioreg command) report the 'design capacity' as lower than it should be.

Where can I get a cheap(er) battery for my aging 2 year old Macbook? I have tried Apple, but the price is pretty steep! I'm in Australia (Sydney specifically), if that makes a difference.

Two, almost certainly related problems:
My MacBook has taken to turning itself off while still showing as having a high battery charge. It has turned itself off while showing it at 36 minutes of battery time left.
coconutBattery says that my current battery capacity is only at 54% of the original. Anything I can or should do about this?

Is my mac battery dying or is there another problem? My macbook is almost a year old. Suddenly my battery life sucks. I just opened it up after charging it over night and it only registered 1:33 minutes left. Right now, only minutes later it is at 79% with 1:09 left. It’s dropping faster then the elapsed time.
