Why is Time Machine trying to backup 35 GB of data every single day when I'm only using 300 GB of my 500 GB HD and I know I have not changed or added that much in the time since my last backup? [more inside]
For some reason my copy of Deltron 3030 [The Instrumentals]
CD just will not rip to mp3 without serious artifacts appearing on the mp3 version. The CD plays fine on every stereo I have tried but will not rip on any of the Macs I have here at home. Anyone know where I might obtain a copy of the MP3 version of these songs hopefully for free since I already legally own the album and just want them on my iPod? Or on the other hand, anyone know how I might rip these successfully? [more inside]
Can someone tell me how to get EtherPEG for OSX
to work on my PowerBook? It seems that out of the box, it will only work with wired connections, not wifi. Please point me to the appropriate download or instruct me how to recompile it. [more inside]
I have a new 12 inch PowerBook with original power adaptor, my girlfriend has a 1 year old iBook with original power adaptor, I also have an old 15 inch 877 MHz "TiBook" PowerBook with an aftermarket power adaptor supposedly built just for that TiBook (at least I was told it would work with that TiBook.) Can we share power adaptors? Or should I only use my new power adaptor with my new PowerBook?
I'm about to get a brand new PowerBook and would like to be able to run OSX, Linux, and run Windows applications. VPC is one option, but isn't there a Linux version that will run Windows applications? If so, what is it, how well does it work, and how best should I setup the computer to use it? Dual boot? Boot from within OSX? Multiple partitions, one for each OS? Since this laptop will be brand new, I'd like to take the opportunity to get everything setup right. Oh yeah, I'd also like to give OpenOffice a try (on the OSX install), any words of wisdom for me there?
I have a Mac at home running 10.3.9. I would like to plug a telephone line into the modem port and be able to call in to it while I'm on the road using my laptop. I don't need or want access to the files, I don't want or need to see the Tibook's screen, or control the computer at home. I just want dialup access to the internet via my cable modem connection at home, more or less rolling my own ISP. Is this possible? If not with my Mac, what about one of those AirPorts? I heard some of them have modems but some of them don't, anyone else doing anything like this? [more inside]
I don't trust public hotspots. I'd like to sit in a coffee shop, connect via VPN to my local network at home and use my home internet connection (cable modem) to access the outside world. Does anyone have any experices with Sveasoft's
firmware hack that supposedly lets you do this. I'm using a Linksys WRT54G
and their Satori-4.0 v2.07.1.7sv
firmware but having a hell of a time getting it to work. Is this even an option? [MI] [more inside]
