Going to London on a very quick and dirty business trip next week. I'd like to acomplish two things. 1) Bring my friend, a French foodie living in Brixton, something from America that she might find difficult or can't get there (value up to $50-$100) and 2) pick up some thing(s) for myself as a cool souvenir that I can't get over here. I have escalophobia (vertigo related) and so as a rule avoid the extra long escalators on the tube network (namely Angel, Holborn and Leicester Square) as I've previously had panic and vertigo attacks on them. This evening I need to get to Goodge Street and TfL recommends I change from the Piccadilly line to the Northern line at Leicester Square. I'm struggling to find out from google whether this change involves using the very long escalators. Do you know? [more inside]
So, after leaving her job to pursue another degree in a field that she loves and having been out of work (or studying) for nearly 3 years my other half has been offered the job of her dreams. Yay! Unfortunately we're in Yorkshire and the job is in South West London, and the job is (initially at least) a 7 month short term contract. So she needs accommodation. [more inside]
I am looking for a new career direction and am curious about UK emergency services/NHS dispatcher jobs. I have found a little bit of information about these sorts of jobs online, but never seen them advertised. Have you ever done this sort of job? Can you point me towards any information? I am particularly looking for information about pathways into this sort of career, and what the work itself is like. (I already know about the sadly defunct Nee Naw blog.) I am based in central London. Thanks!
Where can my girlfriend and I sit down, relax, read, and talk for a long while during our visit to London? When weather is good, we love parks. When it's raining, we're at a loss. Are there any especially good libraries or other places for this kind of thing? Thanks!
I would like to to like to buy some IKEA-style furniture, and I'm willing to pay a premium of around £60-£100 so that I don't have to build it myself. But I can't find any way to buy any! Surely this must be possible? [more inside]
Spending a week in accommodation in Brockley, London, in early October. To be specific, Manor Avenue Brockley London, SE4 1TE. As London seems to be the place where you literally breathe out money in order to survive, keen to do this on as low a budget as possible. Will not have a car and prefer walking where possible. Going through architecture sites, it looks as if all residential projects in London are of the mostly-glass, super clean type, like this one or the output of these fine people. Are there residential architects who like to do thing in a more, hm, bohemian, messy way, or is that totally out of fashion?
You are male, single, employed, 20/30-ish, looking to settle down and start a family with a similar lady within the next three years or so. Where in London do you go to find potential dates? (Asking for a friend.)
I'm in London again, and having a whale of a time thanks to all the advice I garnered last year. One new thing I want to try this time is having a little flutter-I want to place a small bet on something. I don't expect to win, but would like to know how to bet intelligently so as to improve the odds. [more inside]
I'm looking for book recommendations for thorough, engaging, and rigorous histories of Savile Row tailoring and/or books that talk about the history and philosophy of fine men's tailoring and dress. I'm not averse to books with technical information, as well as historical and cultural information. Thank you!
I'm trying to rebuild a mix tape made for me by a London friend around 1989-1990. One track I'm having trouble finding started out with "Are you sitting comfortably? [Good.] Then I'll begin," which is a sample from the BBC's "Listen with Mother" radio series (click on the second old time radio for a clip, starts at the :16sec mark). After that it had a very deep man's voice saying "Welcome," over and over again while the music ramped up behind it. I always thought the man sounded like Worf, from ST: TNG. Any leads?
I'm looking to get a one-off print of a digital image printed in London. It's going to be mounted and framed as a birthday gift - a Google search turns up lots of options but I'm looking for somewhere highly recommended and with a great reputation. [more inside]

It's our second time in London as a married couple, but now we're vegan. Recommendations for a lovely night out for just the two of us? [more inside]
The recently released movie Closed Circuit uses London's extensive use of the CCTV technology in ways I had only envisioned in my own screenplays. What movies within the past 10-15 years or so also do this? I am thinking more like how the Bourne movies used the technology than movies like The Conversation and The Lives of Others. What movies use CCTV's in an interesting way? Bonus points if it's in London, but it can be anywhere.
We just moved back to London, joy! But our very heavy Dutch style bike does not lend itself to our new flat. What is your advice for finding a light compact bike relatively cheaply, ethically sourced? [more inside]

We've had to switch to a double stroller (buggy/ pushchair), for obvious reasons, but still have our single stroller - a fairly sought-after model, particularly useful for public transport - in very good condition. It's had heavy use, but it isn't destroyed by any means (details inside). Please help me find a useful way to donate our stroller to an organisation that needs strollers in the London (UK) area. I would be grateful for suggestions on the best afternoon tea in London under £30 per head, with an emphasis on the quality of tea and cakes. So here I assume that places serving loose-leaf is better than bags. I am not too fussed about the pomp (though it is a special occasion). Many of the afternoon teas in that price bracket, according to my research, tend to serve teabags, are too busy or full of tourists.

I want to buy a standing desk, and I am willing to spend money on it. It doesn't seem possible to find the model I want in the UK. I'd also like to actually try the product before I buy it. Is there some kind of standing desk showroom I can actually visit (preferably, in London)? Do you have any other model recommendations? Details of search and criteria inside. [more inside]
Even though I'm totally broke, I'm going to London for nine days at the end of August. Yes, the most expensive time to go. Plane tickets were bought with miles, and I'm staying with friends-of-friends. This is why I'm able to go at all. But I'd like some tips on how to have a good time while spending as little money as possible in a place I am totally unfamiliar with (and I want to bug my hosts as little as possible, too). We're seeking couples counseling. We're in London, so there seem thousands of options; how do we pick out the right person for us? I don't think there's anything super-remarkable about our situation, so we don't need a expert in something super-specialised, but it seems like lots of listings are for general-therapists rather than specialists on couples - is this a problem? If so, how do I find the latter kind? If anyone knew someone in London who they'd had good experiences with, that would be super helpful too!
My interests include historical fashion (BBC dramas!), bird watching, music. I'll be there from late-August thru November 2013. More info inside: [more inside]

Over the next month or so, I may occasionally need to do some printing in London (never more than 10-50 pages). Is there anywhere near the Waterloo station where I could bring a usb drive or a laptop and easily and inexpensively print out black and white documents using a laser-printer? Self-service would be preferable. Perhaps there might be one or more chains of printing places (like FedEx/Kinko's in the US) that offers this service throughout the UK? Many thanks for any suggestions.

[UK Job Hunting] I'm looking for a new job and my usual roster of recruitment agencies and contacts are failing to come up with anything either interesting, in London or at my level of seniority. Hello all. I was wondering if anyone has recommendations for a wedding dress shop in London or the Home Counties. I've googled extensively, but there's nothing like a personal recommendation, and none of my friends/family have got married in recent years. I'm looking for a fairly traditional style of dress, budget is flexible (ie, splurge), and excellent customer service is really important to me. Complicating factor: if all goes well, I'll be about five months pregnant on the wedding day, so a shop that could handle that would be great. Any suggestions (or warnings!) would be much appreciated. Thanks!
Hi, I am considering moving back to London after over a decade in NYC. I have a few questions that I am curious about. But after just typing and erasing them- I am just going to ask how other people have found the differences between living and working in (not visiting!) the two cities. [more inside]
Family of four traveling to London for two weeks. Four locked AT&T iphones, four sets of circumstances. I've checked all the options, called AT&T, and have thoroughly confused myself. Any help would be appreciated. [more inside]
We're thinking of making a day trip away from London this week. We'd like some place accessible by train or other public transportation. We have two children under five so it needs to be kid friendly... but the trip is in honour of an adult's birthday, so we'd like it to be some place the adults will enjoy at least as much as the kids (which rules out, for example, Legoland.) What would you recommend?
It's happening!! Mr. Concolora and I are flying out to London tomorrow to start our three week tenth wedding anniversary European extravanganza and I'm about to pop with excitement. We're going to be in London, Paris, Dijon, Verona, Vicenza, Venice, and Rome and we'd love some recommendations on where to eat. Snowflakes inside! [more inside]
I would like to buy unconverted industrial/office/non-residential space in London, like a warehouse or a school hall, to transform it into live-and-work artist studios over a few years. The state of dereliction does not matter too much, nor does the location, but how can I actually find some for sale? I doubt most of these things make it to mainstream websites, as Zoopla/Rightmove hardly have two handfuls of commercial properties for sale at a given time. Any clue?

Best place to exchange dollars for pounds in London?(debit/credit card not available) I am flying to London and need to exchange my US dollars into pounds there. I cannot use my credit or debit card to withdraw money from ATMs due to severe government restrictions in my country of origin regarding foreign currency operations. Debit and credit cards issued by all banks at home are at present mostly useless abroad. If you know where I can get good rates to buy pounds in London, that would be a great help.

I am heading to London for a few days in June, and I need a hotel to which I can take my 10kg dog. Requirements: 100-200 pound a night; near, or within easy public transport to, UCL; green space nearby (for the dog). The internet does not seem very good for this, as some of the hotels that *say* they accept dogs put restrictions (like, must be under 5lbs (!)), and a lot of the information online is old or incomplete. Does anyone know of such a hotel in London, and is certain they'll accept a 10kg dog?
