I have an aunt that loves Tuaca. I'd like to get her a present that is a bottle of liquor she'll love that she may not be familiar with. She'll drink just about anything, but her preferred cocktail is straight up Tuaca on the rocks. Anyone know of anything interesting or obscure that might be awesome?
Is it worth making a road trip from Seattle to Oregon (or further...?) to acquire a decent quantity of alcohol? [more inside]
I am in Tokyo for the next few days, and want to pick up some uniquely Japanese gifts for my boss & coworkers back in the US. Since they are generally hard to please (and they fancy themselves "connessieurs"), exotic/interesting booze tends to be the easiest thing for me to get for them when I need to get gifts for them. For secret santa this year (30 dollar limit, I don't mind going 10 over) I drew a friend who tends to: a) buy most of what he wants anyway and b) have fairly expensive tastes. I'd tag his main areas of interest as A/V equipment, liquor and beer, cigars, and playing guitar. He also has an interest in Germany (his family is from there) and Baltimore (especially sports). I need some ideas for stuff that isn't redundant if he already has it, or which is unique enough to avoid that problem. [more inside]
Do you know of a book or other resource like The Flavor Bible for liquor? I've seen resources on matching wine to food (at least one by the folks behind The Flavor Bible), but I am looking for something similar for liquor and related items (e.g. bitters and mixers). Book, online, or iphone/ipad apps are welcome
Can you find/recommend a brand or type of gin that is definitely made without any orris root? Browsing online thus far has indicated that gin is "often" made with orris, which makes me think there must be some without, but I haven't found any yet. I need it to help test a friend's incipient gin allergy, to try and figure out which botanical is the culprit. [more inside]

A Chinese colleague gave me a bottle of some kind of alcohol - photo. It's one of the most... err... distinctive things I've ever tasted. What on earth is it? (And are you supposed to drink it neat? Down it or sip it?)
