Red Hat Linux won't correctly mount USB flash drive. Also cannot send email. (Although I can log into Gmail, just not send email, chat is also blocked.) FTP from Linux machine to other computers is ok, but we cannot FTP into the Linux machine from Mac or Windows. Are these problems related? Help? [more inside]

I've recently purchased a new external USB DVD drive, as I do not have a floppy drive or internal CD/DVD drive on this windows PC. I am trying to set it up now for dual-booting Solaris+Ubuntu but, even after updating the BIOS (Phoenix 6.00) I cannot boot a USB drive. First, does anyone have a way I could somehow add USB drivers as a boot option (along with XP), so that I can then add Solaris and Ubuntu (making it four options at boot)? [more inside]

Installing Ubuntu Linux (or windows, if it's easier) on my Gateway Laptop with a dead DVD Drive. Is it possible to do with PXE? Or from an external HDD (it has working USB ports, and can (theoretically) boot from USB) with the CD image on it? If so, how? [more inside]

My USB2 hard drive will only stay mounted if I keep accessing it. If I don't, within 5 hours or fewer, I can't access files on the drive or even do a directory listing. I can then unmount the HD, power cycle it, and it will mount again as if nothing had happened. If I keep accessing the disk, say by continuously playing an MP3 mix on it, the disk acts completely normal: uptime now (with MP3s playing) is something like 20 hours without the shadow of a problem. Work gave me a 1GB keydrive for carrying personal files. What I'd adore is using it to carry around a rescue disk such as one of the many tiny bootable Linux distributions. [more inside]

I'd like a wireless network adapter that's supported by Linux 2.4 or 2.6 kernels with a minimum of hassle. I'd prefer a USB network adapter; a USB key would be ideal, but I don't know what sort of reception they get. A PCI card is acceptable as well, though less preferable. Any suggestions?
