We're upgrading a room in our house, and I'd like to install "tunable white" LED lighting, where you can not only dim it but change it between warm white and bright, sunlight-type white over the course of the day. But we don't want to hook our lights up to the wifi or use our phones to control them! This is more challenging than I'd expected. [more inside]
We moved into our little one-story house in Toronto a few months ago and one thing that came up on the home inspection was that our pot lights are not covered by vapour boots. Since then, I spoke to an insulation guy about upgrading the insulation in the attic and he suggested that instead of putting in vapour boots, switching all the pot lights to LED would be more affordable/easier; he suggested replacing the halogens with LEDs as they burnt out. Well, one bulb has burned out. I'm confused about the replacement choices. [more inside]
What kitchen (or elsewhere) LED under-cabinet lights have you used? Were they good or bad? Do you wish you'd done it differently? [more inside]
I like this sconce (with the plain white shade) from Schoolhouse Electric but am wondering if there might be others available that are more affordable and/or that I might like even more. [more inside]
I've installed new LED-compatible dimmer switches. But I still find that the dimmable LED's I've bought don't dim all the way. [more inside]
Our office building is in the process of switching over to all-LED lighting. Our recessed can lights were recently swapped and it's causing a lot of grief- will we just get used to it over time or can I buy some warming filters that won't melt or look like yellow/orange/red dots all over our ceiling? I have only found theatrical lighting sources online so far. Help!
I bought a number address plaque from Etsy and I love it. However, the wall it is mounted to is blue, and consequently it is pretty difficult to read the sign from the street. I'd love to mount something behind it to solve this problem. [more inside]
Dimmable LED light bulbs seem more economical than halogens. But they're really expensive. Will they quickly come down in price, so I should wait? Or will they come down slowly, so I might as well start saving? Also, how good is the dimming? I tried dimmable CFL's, but they don't seem to dim past 50%.

I've been looking around at lighting options for my bedroom, and my geeky self decided that custom LED strip lighting would be awesome. Then I read previous AskMe's and want to make sure I can do this without burning down my house! Questions and a search for the easy way inside! [more inside]

Any advice, particularly construction/fabrication related, for this lighting oriented site-specific installation?
A couple of friends and I are organising a site-specific installation for the Smart Light Festival (flash w/ sound) to be held in Sydney from May 26 to June 14 this year. While I would appreciate any advice on bringing an installation like this to fruition, I was hoping specifically to get feedback on our plans to pre-fabricate the components (basically if they seem feasible, and if there are cheaper more efficient ways of going about it, how to use less energy, and especially how we could reuse or recycle the materials). Electronics/LED Folks: I bought a few cheap, poorly-assembled LED color-changing orb-things and I'm pretty sure they're the coolest objects I have ever owned. I cracked 'em open, and damned if I know what is going on in there, but it looks simple/cheap as all hell. Help me figure it out, I'll post a build-log/parts list somewhere, and in short-order we can all be ass-deep in home-made, disarmingly sublime mood-lighting. [more inside]
I have a motherboard in my PC, with 3 extremely bright blue LED lights. I can't disable them, because they show whether or not there is a problem with the CPU, RAM, etc. Would putting something like Blutack over them damage them? [more inside]
