I'm looking for a great LAN messenger for my business with 3 computers. I've tried Squiggle but I've got niggles. Things like how and when messages do or don't pop up and whether or not they steal focus. It seems the messages don't attract attention when they should and do when they shouldn't. It's like it's nearly there but not quite.

My company's LAN is fast and reliable, except for the connection to one building. Inside that building is an unattended WinXP-Pro system running basically one program 24/7, that we need to be able to monitor. Typically, we only need to interact with the computer >1% of the time, but we need to be able to make sure the software up and running, without problems, all the time.

Hi,
I am trying to set up a surplus router as a NAS and torrent appliance, to integrate into an existing network. The setup will use two routers, one to provide network and internet to everyone, the other will use TomatoUSB and will be dedicated to torrenting.

I'm after some 2 player LAN Mac games. The answers to
this previous question don't hit the spot. Cannot rely on speed or dexterity (so no FPS), timers are also out. I have Hedgewars but word games or well-executed card games would be excellent as would strategy (not Frozen Synapse) with a good learning curve. From searches it seems the Mac is neglected in this area.

I am looking for a WinXP driver for a wireless lan PCMCIA card. I have searched via google, but alas to no avail. The card has "11M Wireless LAN Card PCMCIA" on the front and The Part number is WE250-IF. One site suggested that it was either a BroMax or a KingsMax card, but I still couldn't find a driver and both companies seem to have vanished. Any suggestions greatly appreciated - Cheers Dren

I'm looking at an efficient way to distribute large files to multiple computers over my lan, I need to know how to do this and whats involved. I was thinking that since I have a dedicated server in my home that hosting the files via private lan'd bit torrent would be the weapon of choice as the file transfer speed increases exponentially.
My server is running a version of ubuntu so whatever software I will need must run in ubuntu. The clients downloading the files will probably be running windows boxes so Utorrent can be used and would be preferred. Are there any specific things that I need to turn on in Utorrent to do this via lan or will it essentially be seamless as long as the tracker is my server?

I'm extending an wired ethernet LAN to a nearby house. I'm planning to connect a 50m patch cable to the existing bridge router, run it through an existing underground pipe to the other house where it would meet a switch and serve internet via two shorter patch cables (25m?) to two laptops in that house. Can anyone see a problem with this setup?

Up in ur antique pc's optimizin ur network. I, a previously porn-surfing net monkey whose "kit" was a Dell Inspiron 5100 laptop (a retard's computer if there ever was one), have through recent endowments of hardware and employment opportunities, become the proud new owner of a fleet of slightly antiquated electronics that will need to be strung together and (probably) modified and moved if I'm not going to go insane tranferring massive volumes of data from one to another. This isn't so much a tech question as a planning one - what would you do with all this stuff? How can I get the best use out of it?
