While plugged into a USB port on my PC, my recently purchaced jumpdrive (Sony Microvault 4GB) mildly shocks me as I try and handle it. It is pulsing with a current. Obviously I'm going to return it, but what I would like to know what causes this phenomenon? Talking with friends who usually are up on this sort of thing draws blanks.

Traveling on business with a company laptop -- has a DVD drive, but no DVD software. I want to watch a DVD to make the long train ride home bearable, but I don't have administrator privileges to install any software. [more inside]

I have a 512 MB Lexar jump drive, which I connected to my brother's computer before installing windows. I didn't think about this while instructing him on the install, and the partition on the jump drive was deleted. How can I fix it?

I have in mind a device: it is portable (battery-powered); you plug pen/jump/thumb drive 'A' into it, and then plug pen drive 'B' into it. Press a button, and 'A' is mirrored to 'B'. Does this device exist?
