I've got a very eclectic resume: 5-7 years of experience in several different fields at once, because I have had multiple simultaneous jobs. Now I'm looking for a new gig, and I think I have a lot to offer, but I'm not sure how to market the breadth of my skills.

Networking Etiquette.
I am starting out on a new job search, and I was hoping to learn some pointers in networking etiquette. I have recently received a graduate degree in Public Relations/Communications. My main contacts are people in my program and professors. I am interested in what is the proper manner to introduce myself to people outside of my current circle with the ultimate aim of landing a job in this field. I appreciate any advise you may have. Thanks!

How do you market researchers do what you do? I’m curious about the profession and I’d like some information on how researchers actually spend time. Special projects at my design service firm often include an element of conjecture about potential audience. When we work on projects that might be legitimately useful or tool-like, I’d like to introduce some rigor into our process and know better when to think about hiring a contractor or outside vendor for research.

What are the best online sites for job hunting - specifically technical sales and marketing (software sales, hardware, etc). I got blind sided by a layoff on Monday. I've spent the last two days working my network and now it's time to start hitting the job sites. What are the good ones? I haven't had to do this in about 6 years. My initial reaction is that the job sites aren't any better, and maybe are worse, than I remember.

I really hope people don't see this as me promoting myself; I really need shared experience and advice about how to market myself. I am on some business forums but they tend to promote just themselves as THE place to market yourself - there must be more...
So, I run a proofreading/copyediting/copywriting/transcribing business. Doing OK as I launched while working full time at a day job. Now looking to transition out of the day job, a step at a time, so I can spend that time on the business. Eventual aim: work a 40 hour week just on the business, at home, for myself.
But the day job might require me to drop 2.5 days a week rather than the 1 I can really cope with. So I need to up my marketing to drive some business my way. Any solutions you've used that really work? e.g. there is a consensus that Yellow Pages/Yell is not worth the fee. Also I work with US and UK clients, though UK based - any hints for reaching more US people?

What blogs / sites make you say "I want to hire this guy!". What is it about those sites that makes you say this? If and when my next employment search comes up, I would like to have a web presence that gives prospective employers a window into my work, thoughts, outlook, etc. I am looking for blogs that do a great job at selling the author to potential employers. I am interested in content but also the sites presentation and functionality. I am more interested in business related blogs rather than designer / portfolio types sites, but will take all comers. Blogs that incorporate photos of the author would be a bonus. Help me find examples of great personal salesmanship on the web.
