I have a tricky job-application scenario: basically, I can do all the requirements that were
advertised, but I have excellent reason to believe they expect the person in the position to semi-regularly do something my health prevents me from doing at all. How do I handle this in the application/resume process?

I have an upcoming job interview for a fairly sales-oriented position in business. Putting aside that I'm not sure I want the position yet and that in my eyes it counts against the company that they put stock in this sort of thing, the company is about to send me a personality test which they use as a strong hiring indicator. I would prefer to ace the test, whatever that means, and have my actual interview and position discussion determine hiring. How should I go about answering a test that I don't believe will be reflective of my personality?

I'm a UI/UX designer who is flat broke and unemployed. I'm independently interviewing for 2 positions at the moment and have 3-4 other positions that I have or am about to interview for through a recruiter. Some are temporary, some are temp-to-perm, and some are permanent. Some are also more interesting to me than others, including one that I'm most interested in which I've been waiting to hear back from for the past week or so. However, the temporary positions (2-4 weeks) have more immediate needs and are more likely to lay something on the table in the next few days if they end up giving me an offer.
My question is: If I get a call that says "We'd like to offer you the position", how do I respond without an immediate yes and still be in consideration?

Because of a story in the newspaper, I discovered that a local nonprofit will soon have a job opening that sounds like a perfect fit for me. The job is not posted on their website yet, but I was thinking of emailing someone there anyway just to let them know how interested I am in the organization, the job, and the changes they've made to make the job possible. Will this result in them looking more favorably on me when the job is posted, or in them looking at me as over-eager and unprofessional?

I am applying for tenure-track molecular biology faculty positions in the US. My skills are also in high demand in industry. Offers for faculty jobs I apply to now should come anywhere from late Feb to early May with a lot of flexibility on how long I have for acceptance. I suppose that biotech industry positions will have a much shorter timescale from application to their decision and how long I have for mine, but I'm not entirely sure. If I want to maximize my options in the spring, when should I start inquiring about industry jobs?

I have been offered a position as librarian in a very rich area of California. Though my qualifications (5 yrs experience w/ MLS as librarian in busy urban area), they offered the base amount in salary range, when adjusted to where I live now, is somewhat less as far as I can tell by about $2000. I asked to negotiate salary. This field is tough to move around and this is one of the best libraries in the country. Pay is low in libraries regardless and lower now because of the glut of degrees. The HR person is contacting me soon and I am not sure how to negotiate and feel in a position of little power.

First of all, let me say I am thankful for getting a phone interview offer....read on and apologies for the ramble and poor writing style here. Please bear with me here for a bit. I had a job interview in a city I had hoped to move back to two weeks ago, and didn't get it. Like most others applicants, I prepared very well and studied, talked to myself, etc. so, it is what it is. I desire to get back to this place where my wife's family and my friends are and where I have lived for 15 years (Indianapolis). I've been extremely stressed out, have anxiety problems but have meds to help.

I am currently wanting to apply for some job openings within my field (library) and external. Per the norm, the employer wants at least one current work recommendation from a supervisor. The problem: at my workplace no employees are allowed to give work recommendations based on issues of legality that would make the library liable. How in the hell do I then put down a recommendation from a boss who likes me but will not do a recommendation? My previous job experience though not spotty was in retail with no promotion to speak of. I have been also using my professor(s) from grad school 6 years ago who happily remembers my scholastic performance. What would you do? Thanks for your thoughts.

I am wanting to get a job in Indianapolis where I am from. My wife and I have lived in my current city for 4 years and have not managed to make any close friends and am not finding much to do here. I am average at my job IMO where others could do much better and have more passion (librarian) (i.e. I don't deserve this job...but that is another story...). Question: trying to figure out what I might be better at and leave library service altogether to more qualified people and find some unrelated job that I can at least make 35 K to start paying off student loan. Is this asking for too much in today's job climate? I am 41 with the M.L.S. if that helps clarify and have solid work performance and have no qualms about ever being a librarian or anything like it again.

According to some of the job-search literature I´ve read/what I´ve heard from friends, companies will sometimes post ads for positions that don´t exist. I´m not talking about outright scams/MLM; I´m talking about legitimate companies advertising for positions that they don´t currently have open. How common is this practice? Why would you go through all the trouble of posting for a non-existent job? Is there an easy way to spot positions that aren´t real?
