I've been looking at
this knife at Best Made for a while, and I can't seem to find its provenance. Many other products at Best Made are rebranded or what have you versions from known suppliers, but I cannot for the life of me find a knife that resembles the Hotta-san — after looking at hundreds online. Everything I find refers back to Best Made's info. Can anyone unravel this mystery?

Where do you recommend to get out of the cities and see some nature/countryside in Japan? We'd love to hike, and spend some time soaking in outdoor hot springs. We've looked at the Japanese Alps as well as the area around Hakone, but we're having trouble sorting through the options, and a bit nervous about the guidebook references to "hoards of day-trippers." Help us focus? Any recommendations for towns, specific hiking trails or hotels?

Last December I was in Japan and I enjoyed the 7-Eleven soup they had. Pretty much all the 7-11's had the same soup, in a stand usually by the cash register, they would have other stuff you could add to the soup; fish balls, meat on sicks, noodles, ect... The soup would be already hot and you served yourself.
My questions is what is that called? And where could I get something like it in Vancouver, BC?

I will be in Tokyo for 5 days next week. Since I will be arriving at Haneda airport close to 23h00, I will need to make a call to my airport hotel to collect me at the airport. How does one actually make a phone call in Japan? I know this sounds silly but not knowing how to read all those japanese characters is making me anxious. The hotel is situated in the Haneda area and the phone number starts with
03. I searched flickr for some pictures of payphones and
this one indicates that it accepts coins and phonecards. I am now worried that due to the lateness of my arrival; no shops selling phonecards will be open. Any advice ?
