I'm looking for a book about JFK's assassination that covers the events leading up to, during and following the assassination, but not one that gets bogged down in discussing the various conspiracy theories. A book that's written by a respected historian with a good reputation works the best. Thanks!

I need to drive from Prospect Heights to JFK around 5 AM on a weekday. I'm not a very confident highway driver anyway, and Google Maps suggests that the most logical route is to take Atlantic Ave all the way east to South Conduit, then straight down to the airport. I've done a variation on this route before and it makes sense and I feel comfortable with it. Except... [more inside]

Were JFK conspiracy theories held in the same regard as as 9/11 truthers are now?
John F Kennedy conspiracy theories are a part of popular culture, feeding books, documentaries, movies etc. Which made me think
1. Were the people who held these views thought of as kooks in the 1960's?
2. 30 years from now could there be the same thread take hold in popular culture in relation to 9/11?

I'm catching a morning flight out of JFK next Saturday and I need to leave my car at the airport for a few days. I would like to use the on-airport long term parking lot because it looks like there's AirTrain access, but I don't think you can reserve those spots. So I've got two questions:
1) is the parking lot (on Lefferts Boulevard) hard to find?
2) what are the odds that there won't be any spots when I show up?

This past weekend I had a huge moving sale, and ended up with about $1500 in small bills ($1s, $5s, $10s, $20s). Between cleaning my apartment and packing everything up today, I forgot to go to the bank and deposit the money into my account. Tomorrow morning I fly out of JFK (Terminal 4, specifically) to move to San Francisco, and since my flight is early there's no time to go to a bank. I feel weird traveling with these huge wads of cash, especially as it's all small bills. Right now it's all stuffed into a cigar box in my carry-on. I don't think it will fit in my wallet. Will the currency exchange places give me $100s (or better yet a money order) for my cash, and will I find one before passing through security? Will TSA steal from me, or give me a hard time for carrying these wads of bills? Is there possibly a Bank of America branch in JFK? What should I do? I don't think I'm comfortable depositing this much cash through an ATM, and anyway it would take forever.

Asking for a friend: "Our flight leaves from JFK at 5:55 PM. We're currently in Northern New Jersey, near Morristown. My father has offered to drive us to the airport, but we're concerned about whether this will be physically/emotionally possible due to the marathon. Our plan was to head south and take the Verrazano Bridge. Will this take us around the road closures / traffic hell, or should we just take the train?"

Watching a JFK assassination documentary on cable has gotten me thinking. Given the extreme state of the Cold War in 1963 and Lee Harvey Oswald having lived in the Soviet Union and being connected to Communism, was there any kneejerk reaction among the American public/political hawks calling for direct retribution against the Soviet Union? Or efforts to sell the assassination to the public as a reason to do so. How did that national tragedy differ from/align with 9/11 in that respect?

I finished reading Richard Belzer's hilarious book UFOs, JFK, and Elvis: Conspiracies You Don't Have to Be Crazy to Believe
and it has gotten me interested in the JFK assassination. I then looked at a YouTube video
that basically used a computer sim that showed the shooting coming from the book depository. My main question: Can any mefite recommend a book or three (of the million written) on the subject that they enjoy and find convincing on the assassination? I am open to any suggestions. Feel free to share your thoughts on the subject.

Flying in February on JetBlue from Syracuse to JFK, then taking a Virgin Atlantic flight to LAX for five days. My problem is that I should arrive at JFK around 7:45am, and my Virgin Atlantic flight is scheduled to leave at 9:05am. How screwed am I if I decide to go with one piece of baggage along with my carryon and laptop bag and hope not to miss the flight. Should I just pack well and go with the carryon?

NYC to Berea, Kentucky. Best ways to travel back and forth, about 6 roundtrips over the course of 3 months? Low cost is very important, but not quite so important that I could stomach the 19-hour Greyhound ride every time. Can't find any budget airlines that go NYC-Lexington. Some cheap flights BWI-LEX and some NYC-Dayton -- maybe those are my best choice even with the added time/cost on bus legs? Finally, anybody know approx. taxi cost Lex-Berea (for times when Greyhound schedule doesn't fit with my plane)? Thanks!

Why is Kennedy looking down in his Official White House portrait? A friend of mine asked me this and it's driving me crazy. I can't find the answer anywhere, although I did discover that the painting was done in 1970 by Aaron Shikler, so my guess is that he is looking down because it was painted after his death, but of course I can't find a definite answer anywhere.
