My SO are trying to plan a short, romantic trip to Italy for our 3rd anniversary. Flying out from London for two nights in May, mid-week (if that matters). What small, pretty, fairly quiet town would you suggest?

I'm doing a last minute long weekend for my wife's birthday in Rome in a couple of days. I've got some good feedback on dining ideas, but I'd love any suggestions for other tourist stuff to do in the dead of winter. We've done most of the big sights, but special exhibits at the galleries or off the beaten trail suggestions very welcome.

When walking in the woods in the region of Slovenia, Austria, Hungary, Croatia, and/or northern Italy, what type of predatory animals would one be most likely to encounter, and how does the likelihood of encountering them compare to the likelihood of encountering predators in the mountain West of the US? For instance, in western Montana/Idaho, I frequently see coyotes, I often hear Great Horned Owls and sometimes see them, and I know mountain lions and wolves are out there but it's very rare to actually encounter one. (I'm not asking about danger to humans, it's just a more general question about common types of predatory animals.)

[Italy filter] There are many enticing offers in Italy nowadays for internet accounts including "free" (in the sense of "included in the price") phonecalls, etc., all of them looking quite a lot cheaper than my present contract (Alice from Telecom Italia). But I'm nervous about switching accounts...

I am working on a short persuasive paper (about 1000 words) for a Narrative in the Novel and Film class, in which I must argue for the inclusion of a film of my choosing in a future iteration of the class. The film about which I have chosen to write about is
Il Conformista, which would (theoretically) be used in a section of the class called "Terror, Surveillance, and Human Rights". I've been having trouble finding critical essays about the film that specifically look at the film's portrayal of Fascist Italy. What are some good sources for essays on this film, or on the portrayal of WWII-era Italy in cinema? (I am not looking for reviews of the film, of which I have plenty.)

I am looking for
this T-shirt, a cartoon of Mt. Vesuvius saying "Pompeii? I am sorry." I saw it in Naples, Italy while visiting, at a couple of stores - one of them was the store at the Archaeological Museum. Can anyone tell me where I can find or buy it online?

My family is traveling to Florence in October. This is not our first Florentine rodeo, so to speak - we've done a lot of sightseeing and exploring on past visits. This time, we thought it might be fun to delve a little deeper and take a class (cooking?), workshop, special organized tour, etc. Four adults, fairly foodie, up for anything that isn't too physically strenuous. Any MeFi "Been There Done That" recommendations?

What excellent red wine should my partner buy in Italy to bring home that he can't get here? We're fans of Luigi Righetti Amarone, but we can, uh, get it in Toronto. Seems silly to fly it home.
Likes: dry, full-bodied, spicy. also enjoy dry pinot noirs (lighter body).
Dislikes: sweet, fruity, herbal
Price: up to $100/bottle, but that would have to be out of this world amazing.

Hi all. I am looking for recommendations for food in Venice (anything from a Paninoteca to a Ristorante). I've read that it is difficult to find good food in Venice, so I'm hoping the Metafilter hive mind can help me out. In addition, any recommendations for sightseeing would be great. Especially non-traditional/off the beaten path stuff. Thanks again.

I was in Venice for a few days at the end of March, and several times saw young people in the street participating in a weird ritual: they would read out a passage from a hand-made poster, the crowd would laugh, and someone would attack them with a foodstuff -- I saw a lot of flour, once a meat tray, and an unfortunate soul
having canned whipped cream injected down his pants. What?
