My kids like playing with my iPhone. I like playing with my kids. What are some kid-friendly iPhone (or browser-based) activities that act as springboards for face-to-face human interaction? I'm not so much looking for games like Ticket To Ride where we each take turns focusing on the phone. I'm more looking for things like Heads Up or Spyfall where the phone is involved, but the main focus is on the other humans in the room. [more inside]
Mostly loving these ridiculous new AirPods, but as many have noted they are slippery as can be. I don't necessarily mean even in your ears, as much as just pulling them out of the case. I know that at some point there will be "skins" to cover them, but the tight tolerance of them fitting in the case, plus the holes for all of the sensors, will make these solutions difficult. What I'm looking for is a solution to add some "grippy points" strategically to the earpieces themselves. [more inside]
Suggest expense apps or spend trackers for my iPhone that do not require having a budget? I do a good job at tracking my expenses using Dropbox and a Numbers document but I'd like to do more stuff more easily from my phone, maybe get some reports. I'd like to get more of a handle on where my money is going and, if possible, sort out expenses by trip. I've tried a lot of apps and I'm coming up short. Maybe there is one you like? Specifics follow. [more inside]
With so many cheap, and often misleading, consumer goods to choose from, I could use assistance with selecting a heavy duty, well-made case for an iPhone 7 Plus. Standard case or flip wallet variety. [more inside]

For some unfathomable reason, I haven't been able to find a single iphone app that will allow me to play a podcast as a wake-up alarm. Surely, SURELY, this incredibly basic functionality must be available SOMEWHERE. Yes I have seen this question, the app marked as 'best answer' no longer exists. [more inside]
I am NOT talking about swiping up to turn Bluetooth on or off completely via the Control Center. [more inside]
How can I remove restrictions on my iphone without erasing my son's pokemon go data? [more inside]
It didn't even happen all that slowly or imperceptibly: I turned into someone who immediately reaches for my iphone if the person I'm dining with leaves the table or I'm walking somewhere or almost any other thing happens. [more inside]
I’m considering buying an iPhone 7+, without a contract, to use as a glorified iPod Touch, and I’m looking for feedback about the pros and cons of doing so. I’ve seen many comments online about people turning “old” iPhones into wifi-only devices, but not much about using a new iPhone without a contract. [more inside]
I have an iPhone which I'm ALWAYS on. I'd love to leave the iPhone at work and go home with a dumb phone. [more inside]
I recently bought a Bluetooth speaker that I use for my living room stereo. I connect my iPhone (6 if it matters) to play music or podcasts. I also like to play games on my phone while listening to music, but don't want the game sounds to play through the speaker at all. [more inside]
For an iPhone, what's the difference between backing up to iCloud and backing up to your computer (besides the obvious that "The Cloud" is just someone else's computer)? Is one better than the other or does it depend on what your goals are? [more inside]
My iPhone 6S got wet during a rainy hike two days ago, and despite my efforts to dry it out so far, I still see moisture under the front camera lens and the screen is having major issues. I do not have AppleCare+. Can you help me think through my options for either repairing or replacing my phone? Specific questions below the fold. [more inside]
Trying to set up Apple Pay on a new iPhone SE has been a huge and aggravating and unsuccessful time sink. It "Just Fails". If you use Apple Pay, do you like it? How often do you use it? In what circumstances do you still pull out a credit card? After 9+ hours of phone time with Apple support and card issuer support, turns out the card I use daily is not eligible for Apple Pay because it was issued to me several years ago to replace a "partner" card. Apple does not support "partner" cards. Obtained new, the card is fine with Apple Pay. But, my card, in effect, was grandfathered back to the "partner" card. The card issuer has no solution other than applying for a new card. A second card with a different card issuer can't be activated because the card issuer is texting a verification code to the wrong number. They "don't know" why, so they've opened ticket.
I have an iphone 6 with Verizon. My contract is about to expire. Googling has left me with a wide variety of seemingly conflicting answers. What is the cheapest, smartest route for me to get a new iPhone 7? I'm not sure I trust the local Verizon people to give it to me straight, so what has your experience been? [more inside]
I do marketing for a chain of stores in the Midwest. One of the owners thinks we need to spend money on geofencing. He found a company that does it for a hefty price. But they claim that a person does not need to access their phone within the fence to receive an ad impression. Another company I work with tells us that your phone must be accessed within the fence. Both agree that you have to have location services on. Which is it? Are they both right? [more inside]
What I want is simple: I pluck the guitar string (or make some other sound), and the app tells me the frequency in Hz. [more inside]
I want to be able to record moving images that are playing on my iPhone screen. Is there an app that will do this? It doesn't need to record audio, just video.
My phone is an iPhone 6. Through work I have access to an unlocked iPhone 6S Plus. I would like to try using the iPhone 6S Plus as my everyday phone to see if the form factor works for me. Can I just move the sim from the 6 into the 6S Plus and start making calls, or do I need to involve my carrier (Verizon)? [more inside]
I sometimes end up in areas without Wi-Fi, for days at a time, and I do not want to be bored. It's there a good way to preemptively save reading to an iPad or iPhone for this scenario? What strategies work for you? What is the best approach for news feeds? How about magazines or ebooks?. Any other tips?
Once I had a Garminfone, and when I’d rent a car, I’d plug the phone into the car’s USB outlet, run the GPS, and listen to podcasts, the radio, or just sit in silence. Now I have an iPhone 5s running on OS10, and I recently rented a Hertz, and found much of that impossible. Worse, Applemaps led me the long way round the Northeast recently, adding several hours to my trip. Soon, I’ll need to drive home. Please suggest a new mapping program. Without GPS, I’ll never get home at all. [more inside]
My iPhone (and only my iPhone) is having trouble with my home wifi (and only my home wifi). What gives? [more inside]
Is it safe to update my iPhone to ios10 ? It keeps bugging me. I have a 6s plus.
I'm trying to find a good way to combine multiple video clips that overlap (shared frames between the videos)-- ideally something can be run on Windows, but I'm interested in good solutions on toher platforms, as well. This is for H.264 Quicktime MOV files (1080p 12-15fps) that are captured as the live part of iPhone Live Photos. [more inside]
I'm looking for best practices for using our iPhones and iPads on public Wi-Fi networks. That is, what can we do to best protect/secure/encrypt the data that is transmitted over such networks to/from the devices (aside from not using the public networks in the first place)? Would using a VPN accomplish this? Any recommendations for one? Something else? These are iPhone 7's and iPad Pro's, all running the latest version of iOS 10. Thank you!
I've been playing with recording songs or reading my poems as voice memos on my iPhone 5 (iOS 10) lately. I want to clean the audio up before I share it in any capacity. I have a PC running Windows 8.1. I'm hoping to learn the basics of things to specifically do in Audacity or another free program. I cannot afford software or recording equipment, and I have no previous knowledge of sound editing. For a sample here is a PJ Harvey cover I recorded today.
I didn't ask it to, but my iPhone lately keeps trying to download more music to its library. Any clues? [more inside]
Why does the Twitter app on my iPhone open retweets in Safari? [more inside]
I'm looking for a photo editing/filtering and collage app for my iPhone SE. I'm pretty sure my requirements are fairly simple, but there are so many apps out there that I'm getting overwhelmed trying to find one that works. [more inside]
I work for the government and have a BlackBerry for work. I'm eligible for an upgrade and can choose between the BlackBerry Classic and the iPhone 6. My personal phone is an iPhone and I prefer them... but will I be shooting myself in the foot? [more inside]
I have an iPhone 6s Plus, which has become pretty much my only camera for the last several months. I actually like it a lot and have been learning to get some photos out of it that I really like. However, I'd like to have more control over the camera settings than I get from the default app. Is there an app that does this well? [more inside]
I have one bad ear and one good ear. Would there be any way to wear one hearing aid and one earbud and have my phone push audio to both of them at once? [more inside]
Can you give me advice on the best course toward upgrading to an iPhone 7 Plus in this new non-subsidized phone world? The twist: I have a grandfathered AT&T unlimited plan. [more inside]
It's time for us to replace a lot of iPhone cables in the house and car that are of various lengths. The current ones became twisty and tears are starting appear in them. I'm hoping to find some cables in 3, 6 and 10 feet lengths that I don't have to replace every year. Or is that an impossible dream?
I like to listen to the same podcasts as my girlfriend while going for walks, but using a cable splitter and wired headphones is pretty frustrating. Is there a good way to either connect two pairs of headsets over bluetooth and/or listen on one set of plugged in wired headsets while the other person listens wirelessly over bluetooth? [more inside]
Can you help me find a diabetes tracker that I can update both on the Web and my iPhone? [more inside]
My iphone 6 headphone jack has got intermittent audio weirdness regardless of different known good headphones plugged into it. I can try to get it fixed, or I can get me some Bluetooth earbuds, which I otherwise don't need. But there are hardly any Bluetooth earbuds that are * NOT * in-ear - which I would need. [more inside]
Is there an iPhone or Android video recording app that only records when motion is detected? [more inside]
I'm looking for a comfortable, loud, good-sounding bluetooth dingus with no features to use with my iPhone. Something that doesn't talk to me, doesn't play my music, doesn't have firmware updates. I want dead simple like a can opener. [more inside]
Things got a little heated, iPhone was a casualty. Was thrown intentionally and smashed terribly, beyond any state of repair. Can I tell this to insurance? Am I looking at paying full retail?
I dictate my text messages, but there are a couple of things I'm finding tricky to do! 1) I'd like to say "etc", something I say a lot, but if I say "etcetera" it writes it out in full. 2) I'd like to say "idk" and not have it render in capitals! I can theoretically do this with "no caps idk" but that just becomes "i DK".
I would like to record multiple instances of an event on my iPhone. This event happens several times a day, at more-or-less random times. I would like to be able to do something very simple (like touch an icon on my phone screen) to note that "this happened now" and then to go back over time and see each occasion (with date and time info) when the event happened. [more inside]
I need to manage my iPhone files, as I recently ran out of space when trying to take some more photos. I have all my photos backed up, but iTunes on my Windows laptop doesn't (appear) to help me, as I can only manage audio, podcasts and video, and deleting photos on my iPhone is time consuming. Bonus points: all-around photo managing/ tagging software that can also manage iPhone photos. [more inside]
My 3+ year-old HTC One has developed a bug where the camera turns everything purple, battery life is so bad I have to plug it in before lunch, and it's developing some weird keyboard entry errors. Thinking of switching to the iPhone 6SE, but have questions! [more inside]
I like typing in landscape but browsing in portrait. Unlocking the orientation means it turns sideways whenever I lie down. I'd really like a landscape-only text editor. Plain as you like. Markdown and Dropbox support a bonus! I have a 6 Plus, iOS 9.
When I got my iPhone, it came with a Lightning charger cable that went almost a year before I had to hold it at a certain angle in order to keep my iPhone charging. I have bought various replacements on eBay that appeared to be genuine, but got the same problem MUCH quicker with these. Is there anywhere I can get an actual genuine cable that will last, without paying a fortune? [more inside]

We don't have cable or receive OTA signals. We'd like to watch some TV (NetFlix, YouTube, network streaming). We have WiFi, a Samsung SmartTV(450, 2010?), a Toshiba TV, a Wii, an old MacBook w/ dying monitor (6,1 OS X 10.6.8), an old iPod Touch (4th Gen?), and an iPhone 5. Please suggest setups and options using the resources we have or cheap peripherals (<$100) that would make our TVing satisfying. [more inside]
