I need to create a user-friendly InDesign template for a client that they can re-use and customize slightly over and over. Normally I'm the one doing the customizing so I'm a little leery of my ability to produce an editable template document that will be easy for someone else to use with less InDesign knowledge. (I'm somewhere between being a beginner and an intermediate user.) Fellow designers, could you weigh in with tips, warnings, and resources?

The market data page of the WSJ is incredibly dense and filled with interesting graphs. I've been trying to figure out what must go into the creation of such an item on a daily basis, and by perusing the careers page for Dow Jones, i've gathered some information, namely that there is extensive use at the WSJ of Adobe Illustrator, InDesign, and MATLAB. What I haven't figured out is what the workflow looks like for the latter part of creating those graphs.

THE PROBLEM: Let's say you have a large store spread across several floors of a building, with many many aisles and sections. There are information kiosks located at various rooms in the store, oriented different directions. Each information kiosk has a map of the store on it, with the aisles and sections numbered and labeled, and the map rearranged and the text rotated to the viewpoint of the customer standing at the information desk. What is the most efficient way to create and update that map as sections change?

Adobe InDesign CS4: I've got a very large document, divided into sections (chapters). Currently, there are section markers on various pages, with each section defined by a labelled submaster (so I can see from the Pages panel where each section begins and ends). When I add content to various sections, the section markers no longer align as the pages reflow (because the markers are attached to the actual page numbers and not the content). How can I fix this so that adding content to sections continues within the submaster style / section marker for that section and not reflow over the pages?

Let's say I'm an in-house graphic designer working on a sale sign template for a company with several locations. I've got Helvetica. The various locations don't. I'd like to make a fancy template in InDesign, and then create a PDF form where employees can alter small portions of the text and then print the completed sale sign at their location, still using the Helvetica. Is this possible?

Another InDesign question. You know that thing InDesign does? Let's say you just placed a Word doc into your InDesign doc and now you're applying your paragraph styles, heading styles, etc. You remove an extraneous paragraph break (because authors love their extraneous paragraph breaks and have about 100 in each article) and InDesign sees that and says, "Hey, in some universe, the last line of a paragraph has a different leading value than the other lines in the paragraph, even though it's dictated to me by the paragraph style. So I'll just go ahead and fix that for you by making this line of text a different leading value than the others. Then I'll make it not so easy to fix. You're welcome!"

Adobe Indesign 4 trouble. My wife is working on a document with two placed images (one is a B&W TIFF, the other is a monotone EPS) on a page. If she applies transparency to one image, both appear to be desaturated. This problem just cropped up today after she has worked on essentially identical files before.

Mac users: Can somebody please tell me how to set up a keyboard shortcut or script that allows me to toggle between U.S. keyboard and International Phonetic Alphabet (IPA) keyboard layouts? I switch these on and off a LOT when I'm using my iMac and Macbook, but am tired of constantly going up to the little flag dropdown menu in the Finder (which I have to do repeatedly as I switch from program to program, since the drop-down window change doesn't seem to apply globally, but rather only within the current program you have up top). I know there's an easier way, I just haven't gotten around to figuring it out or setting it up. Thanks!
