I'm working on a presentation, and am trying to find a specific kind of imagery, involving a ship's wheel. I'm thinking of a scene in which one person is trying to change a ship's direction, and is straining against the wheel to desperately try to turn the ship. Steering wheels might also be okay. I'm hoping for a clear, single image that presents the person as struggling against turning the wheel. Think: 'Oh my god! We're about to crash into the iceberg/road/etc! Pull up! Turn left, turn left! etc." Thanks AskMe!
I've got an image burned by a DVD program that was provided to me on a USB drive. There are 3 files: x.gi, x (1_0).gi, and x (1_1).gi. Is there a way to watch these using VLC or to otherwise convert and view them on a Mac?
A while back, I was insomnia-browsing, and I came across either an illustration or a photograph of a tattoo, related to the saying below. Unfortunately, I can't remember which. Either way, it was black-and-white, in a simple engraved style. Any ideas what this illustration could be? If it was a tattoo, it seemed like it was probably copied from or inspired by a historical illustration. [more inside]
When I do a search in Google (in every browser on my Mountain Lion Mac), in the URL field there is the URL for the google search. Of course. If I click on "images," instead of a URL showing, I now just get the search response (ie, searching for "what the hell", instead of showing 'https://google.com/search+whateverblahblahblah' it just shows "what the hell" in the URL field. This is new since yesterday! Any ideas to reset it? Thanks.

I need to put images of slides from a PowerPoint presentation into another document. However, the slides invariably look fuzzy in the new document. I've tried adjusting the pixel dimensions of the images on the PowerPoint export, adjusting the resolution of the images to match the physical size I need for the final document, but I haven't found the right combination. I'm going from a full slide to a 2.67x2 inch image. Help? Bonus points if it's a Mac answer.
Apple recently contacted me to license one or more of my images. What can/should I expect from this transaction? Have you had an image licensed by Apple, and if so, what was your experience like? This is for a studio photo and not an "I took this with my iPhone" image. [more inside]
I'm co-writing a theme and blurb for a conference with a colleague. The theme is "Convergence|Divergence." My pal has added an opening that is driving me insane, but I see his point. What images come to mind with this theme? There are two from the music of our youth...The Beatles' "Come together right now," and $BandName "Song Title" Trigger warning: Annoying earworm inside. This image, used in promotional material for the "Southern Women's Show" looks like something to me. Is it an 80s album cover or band logo? Or is it actually some famous piece of artwork? Or am I just completely mad?
A friend said something hilarious, and I would like to create an image that looks like a cross-stitch of that saying, with different colors, decorative border, etc. I've found things where you could generate a pattern for a true cross-stitch, but they don't really work for this. Anything like this out there?
This is one of my favourite photos ever. A worker bowing their head in front of the Super-Kamiokande neutrino detector, in Japan. I recently came across it again after many internet years, but can't find a larger - or the original - version. Any ideas?

I'm looking for an app on Mac OS X (Mavericks preferred. Can't use Yosemite). The app would simply display an image with adjustable transparency such that a second app could be positioned behind this image-displaying app, and I could see the image overlaid. [more inside]
I would like to take multiple photographs, or video frames, and combine them in different ways. An example of this would be to take many frames of a monument on a busy day, and then generate a picture of the monument with no people by taking the empty spaces from different frames. Or to simulate a long exposure by averaging multiple frames taken over time. [more inside]

I made a design on Cafepress, and now I'd like to make a new one based on it. Unfortunately, I do not have the original image of the design anymore. I thought there would be a way to get it back from Cafepress, but I cannot find such a way. Is there one? Some info on what I've tried already inside. [more inside]
My phone camera had a bad day and somehow saved 3 pictures I took as the same image. ie when I click on the 3 different files, it displays the same image. But the thumbnails show the correct image for each of the 3 files. Somehow the jpg files must have got the thumbnails and bigger images mixed up. I've tried different viewers (on my Window computer) and get the same results. I believe jpgs can store several image versions - Is there some technique or software that might let me see and extract all the images within the jgp file? (with the hope to rescue the biggest version of my intended picture for each file). Thanks
I am using PowerPoint 2010 on a PC. Normally when you insert an image then crop it, you can click on the image while the crop handles are still live and drag the image around, then reposition it within the crop, before actually applying the crop. But it's not working like that anymore! [more inside]

I saw a picture earlier this year, probably on Reddit and/or Imgur, of two young kids on a carnival ride having the time of their lives. Right behind them were two slightly older kids or teens looking sullen and glued to their phones. The general layout was something like this. Does anyone remember seeing it, or can you help me find it? [more inside]

Recently I am sure I saw a script or action that analysed an image file and instead of generating the average colour, looked for a key colour (for example a logo colour) and provided that colour value. For example it might look at this image and give you the blue or the pink rather than a beige / skin tone average. Does this sound familiar?

Looking for a way to automate a process on a PC or Mac. I need a simple PNG, transparent background, with a text string of today's date in the lower third of the image. Each day at a certain time, this file would be generated and overwrite the previous file of the same name "Date.PNG".
I have a bunch of 35mm negatives from the 90s and 00s I'd like to get scanned, and I'm wondering what services people recommend. ScanCafe was recommended in a previous post, which sounds like it would work for me, but I'm wondering if other folks have better / cheaper recommendations. In particular the color correction seems unnecessary to me since I can color correct the few images I'll probably want to post myself in Lightroom.
I have an .pdf image that includes railroad tracks. With an old version of Paint Shop Pro, I want to remove just the railroad tracks and then, using a .pdf to .dxf or .dwg converter, I want to make it black and white and scalable. How can I use my version of PSP cut out the image I want? Is there anything else I need to know?
Have you seen this picture before? My 4 year old daughter just drew this picture (of a panda bear, if it wasn't immediately obvious). It is eerily familiar. I swear I have seen something just like it before, somewhere on the internet. A google image search wasn't even close. Help! This is driving me crazy.
I would like a list of generic things in printed material (particularly educational material). I know about the regular types of bits: foreword, preface, tables, figures, plates, glossary, references, dot points, chapter, appendix, headers, footers, page numbers, table of contents; but I would like as big a list as possible (with links to images, if you feel like it of visual identifiers) of other types of repeat things in books, textbooks, reports, education activity books for children- basically any kind of printed material (even if it's supplied electronically). I've screencapped images of tweets as both jpegs and pngs, and uploaded them to four different "make a book" sites (Picaboo, Mixbook, Snapfish, and Shutterfly) and each time, the site warns me that the image is too low-quality to print well. The image preview does not look good. [more inside]
Can I buy an iPhone and use it only as a camera without having to sign up for a service plan? I don't really need nor want a smartphone, however, I'm now wondering, with Instagram, etc, if I should start shooting some stuff on a smartphone? The only downside is that I like having big, canvas prints up around the house am under the impression that the phone's image quality is still pretty crappy.
We can put a man on the moon. We can turn a woman into a man and a man into a woman. We can create computers that are smarter than us. We know what the middle of the earth looks like...And so on and so on and so on...... We are a pretty much technology advanced race of humans. How close are we to inventing a 'Nair' like product for the head? I'm bald and a bit lazy and tired of the routine of shaving my head 3x a week to maintain an appearance that isn't so 'gruff'. My wife likes me smooth! Every hair removal product I read of is not recommended for the head, because our skin on top is too thin and the hair removal chemicals could do more damage then good. So anyway, is there a solution on the horizon? Any miracle head hair removal gel, cream, mist coming out soon? Life must be pretty good if this is what concerns me at the moment...... Humor me?
Vague identification question: I remember seeing a meme/joke about graphic design that was an image with text on it to the effect of asking the reader to hire the creator or use the creator's design. It included the phrase "I did everything right". Does anyone remember this and know where I can find it?

I needed an image map. I'm no coder, so I went looking for a map and code that I could run, change and run it again to see what changed and if I had to change it back. I built a map that seems to be working, except for an small black square icon in the upper left corner. Before I removed the "img scr" line, there was a red "X" in the box. Now, it's just the box itself. I thought that whenever you saw a box like that, it meant the image couldn't be found. But, my entire image is there. When I preview the page in IE and Firefox, the map works and all of my links are where they're supposed to be, but the box won't go away. What is it? Should it go away or will something happen when I publish the site that will make the image nonfunctional? Will it be there when the site goes live? Here is the code - http://pastebin.com/jcFJ433u
