I'm helping my friend grow his small business. Things are going great except that we're at the awkward stage where we're too busy for me and the ops manager to handle the internal IT and Web stuff anymore, but can't quite justify hiring someone to take it over full time.
I'd like to hire someone to be our on-call IT guy. Pay them a small retainer, and get billed by the hour. [more inside]

I am graduating next May (2013) with a Bachelors of Science in Applied Computing Technology from Colorado State University. I have 3 years IT & Network Support experience and just about 2.5 years web development experience through Student positions. I've done the whole freelance thing for the last 5 years as a Wordpress theme guy. How do I approach getting a full time job after college? [more inside]

I'm thinking of getting back into IT. What would you as a hiring manager want to see on my resume that might counterbalance the time I've spent out of IT? What would be the best way to approach this? [more inside]

If I'm applying for a junior developer job in a web company, and they ask for a code sample along with the resume, what sorts of things would make a good sample? How much code is just enough/too little/too much? What would make a sample supergood, or the opposite? [more inside]

Always desiring to experience living in Japan, I moved in the country from Canada almost a year ago on a working holiday visa, which will expire next month. My life here is stable so far, including a job at a company willing to sponsor me for a work visa. I want to live in Japan for a longer period, but the problem is I don't seem to meet the requirements for a visa. I am aware that getting married is the easiest way, but unfortunately, I do not have that possibility.
Is there anything I can do to stay and work in Japan longer? [more inside]

I'm sure this question will not make me the most popular student at the dance, but is there a way to identify (via IP) machines running BitTorrent clients within an internal network (ie. work)?
My company has around 50 employees, and the old, "Please don't torrent at work" doesn't seem to be doing much good anymore.
It brings our email and web browsing to a near standstill, and dropping by the "usual suspects" is not only tiresome, but doesn't seem to find all the sources of traffic any longer.
Any help would be appreciated, thanks.
