Is there a CIDR IP address calculator that can do what I want? If I enter an arbitrary beginning IP address and an ending IP address, it should then give me a list of CIDR-ified IP ranges. [more inside]

I am generally responsible for the technology operations of a startup nonprofit. We currently have our web server hosted on a Windows box. However, we will need to move over to a Linux server for various reasons, including running a new install of Drupal properly. As a result, we'll have a new IP address, though we'll be retaining our domain name and using the same hosting company. But what problems might I run into, especially with Google Apps? [more inside]

I have an IP address and I would like to work out where it is. I know it is on a university network but I would like a more accurate placing of it than that. Can anyone recommend a technique, software or website, which might give me the information? Thanks.

Email sending problem, using GoDaddy, Verizon DSL and a wireless setup. Two laptops, both have Thunderbird email settings set up exactly the same. I can receive just fine, but when I send I get this error: "553 Dynamic pool 71.124.245.174, http://unblock.secureserver.net/?ip71.124.245.*". GoDaddy's support page tells me to go to the URL listed, which leads me to this odd little unidentified page where I can request to have the IP unblocked. [more inside]

Is there an easy way to find out which domain names are using the same shared hosting server? Ideally, there is a web site or free download (OS X preferred) that can tell me which domain names resolve to a particular ip address. I've fooled around with most of the functions on samspade.org and haven't seen one that does this.

Recently a wiki that I host has been defaced pretty badly by some Asian group. I'd like to block an ip address or a range of addresses from my web server. I'm running Jakarta Tomcat on a Windows XP Pro box but Google hasn't been able to tell me how to do this.

Every once in a while, when clicking on an item up for auction at eBay, I get a page with generic message saying "Unfortunately, access to this particular category or item has been blocked due to legal restrictions in your home country..." and cannot see the item. But I'm in the US using a US IP address; why would there be a legal restriction? Going by the most recent incident, from what little I could see of the item's information--basically, the title--it didn't seem to be anything remotely offensive or illegal. Why and how does eBay block certain auctions from certain countries or IP addresses? Is the US one of those countries? How can I view these items? I don't even necessarily want to bid on them, but my curiosity is piqued.

NetworkedPrinterFilter. Today while changing some old HP networked printers from static to dynamic IP addresses, I made the mistake up upgrading the firmware. Now they don't work. Anyone know how to roll back the firmware on a JetDirect card? more inside. [more inside]

Why don't the software companies use the internet to see if two people are on the internet and using the same software license on two separate machines (as defined by IP address, or serial number, or whatever)? This seems like such a basic anti-piracy strategy, and even if it's easily flauted by the technorati, that still means that 95% of users, and maybe 80% of pirates, will be foiled by it. But no one seems to do this. Why? (I've often wondered the same thing about speeding tickets; there have to be more cost-effective ways of catching speeders than paying highway patrolmen to sit there -- is lax enforcement synonymous with tacit endorsement, while still allowing the enforcers to profit by penalizing the occasional transgressor?)

IDon'Unnerstand: Some visitors w/ .uk and .jp ISP addresses are googling for an old URL of mine that doesn't exist (used to be stored on Photoisland but the URL expired), and then they're entering my website by the search results. What the hell is going on? Does this mean someone linked to my image and I didn't know it, now the img URL expired and they're looking for it? [more inside]

Besides their location, can you find anything else about a person based on their IP address? [Like, for example, if you suspect a friend of joke spamming your website and you want to prove it's them?]

Is there any good way to hide your IP # while online? There are a number of programs out there, but I don't know if I trust their effectiveness or non-malwareness. I'm on an XP box.

I need to find a way to automatically post my IP address somewhere. The address changes periodically and I have to consistently reach services on a particular machine. The trouble is that the machine is behind a broadband router, and it's the router's address that's I need to publish. Anyone know of a tool or trick for this? I'm running WinXP Pro.
