I'm helping a friend who has started up a new business. We're having trouble getting their e-mail to syncronise across three different devices: a desktop running Windows 7, a laptop running Windows 8 and an Android-based phone, all using IMAP. What are we doing wrong? [more inside]
IMAP is supposed to be able to preserve message state information across clients. So why is it that my email read/unread states aren't transferring from my Macbook to my iPhone? [more inside]
As part of a general digital cleanup (thank you, Heartbleed), I want to perform the long overdue task of backing up my Gmail account (with nearly a decade's worth of email) to my mac. I have two questions: 1) Is gmvault the only option? Is there anything more accessible to a user who hasn't used Terminal with any regularity in eight years, and even then wasn't very proficient using the command line? 2) If gmvault is the only option, or the most accessible option, can someone explain very clearly how to run it? I am unable to successfully follow the instructions on the gmvault website--they seem to assume that I'll intuit some necessary steps, when I actually need every step laid out for me.
I use iMail at work and set up to use that email on Outlook at home. I have preview off at both locations. When I use Outlook, it causes all of the messages that I had marked as "unread" as "read" when I get back to work (even if I didn't even look at it). Strangely, Outlook shows ALL unread in outlook. Long story short, Outlook shows all "unread" (which I can deal with) but iMail then shows everything as "read" when I next open it. The problem is that I mark messages as unread when I still need to address them. When this happens, I have lose all of my outstanding items. I do not want to use flags. Is there a setting in Outlook that I need to know about?

My online mailbox is full. I want to move some of those messages to a folder on my computer, using Apple Mail in system 10.6.8. There's doesn't seem to be an obvious way to create a new folder in Apple Mail, under the section On My Mac. Can you tell me how to do this? The account is IMAP and private mail service.
I need to migrate about 5gb+ of email from the local folders in Thunderbird to IMAP in Thunderbird. There are a lot of folders and a lot of subfolders, and migrating them "manually" has really been a pain in the ass. I've got about a third of the folders over, but I'd love to hear a better solution that will actually keep the folder structure in place correctly, not randomly. Perhaps there's an add-on for this? Cheers.

I newly purchased an iPhone4 on Vodafone in the UK. Gmail email seems to work beautifully, in a "push" fashion. Yahoo email ( a non paid account on yahoo.com) just does not seem to do it in "push" fashion. Email is erratic. This is despite resetting "all settings" and re installing account. Any solutions guys? Does anyone know the yahoo IMAP settings, as I am told that solves the problem? Thanks
What's the best service to have a bunch of users sign up for email accounts? I'll be teaching an intro to computers (Macs) class, and I'm sure people will want to use email. So, for people who don't already have an email address, I'll go through registering for an email account. But I really want to show them Mail.app so the service should have excellent IMAP support. How do I sync two IMAP folders? I currently use Gmail for all my e-mail (personal & work). I currently have about 4,000+ messages archived in Gmail and I'll continue to add 300-500 per month. I also have a IMAP account with my webhost and I was wondering if there was any type of application or script that would connect to the Gmail IMAP servers and backup/sync all of my mail so I know that in addition to being in Gmail's cloud....it is also on my IMAP server in case something happens. Thoughts?
