My boyfriend Skype-IMed his mother a very dirty greeting that was meant for me. It still shows the circling icon that I think happens when you try to send a user a message when the user does not have Skype running at the time. Is there any way to delete this before she gets it? He's freaking out, as you would too, if I told you what he just told his mother.

Is there a way (with any IM client) to force a persistent logon for an AIM account, even when one doesn't have the sustained internet connection that would actually let one stay logged on? (In order to accept messages that will be "held" and displayed the next time one's IM client starts up?)

I read an article a year or so ago about free IM services. One of the ones mentioned included the ability to use webcams and get video. I have a three year old, and live 1000 miles from her grandparents, so I'd love to get this service and have them be able to see each other while they talk. You know - the good old Jetson's-style videophone stuff. [more inside]

I've been using an IRC bouncer (more info for the uninitiated) for a bit now to allow me to connect from whichever computer I happen to be using - or even more at the same time. I'd like to do the same for the AOL and MSIM accounts I use. Googling AIM bouncer and AIM proxy don't seem to provide much direction though.

I have an 11 year-old brother who is interested in using Yahoo Instant Messenger (or I suppose any other IM program for that matter), but my parents are a little hesitant to let him do so. And understandably so I think. Do any of you let your pre-teens use any IM programs? Is there some sort of method you have worked out for them using it? A monitoring program perhaps? Why are seemingly no IM clients compatible with each other for anything other than chat? (i.e., file transfer, image insertion, file transfer, oh, and also file transfer.) I'm not talking about Y!IM vs. AIM here -- I'm talking about the various clients that all use AOL's IM service. Even the open-source clients have this problem. Why wasn't this problem solved years ago?

Some friends are considering making the switch to an iBook but they use MSN video chat to keep in touch with several friends abroad and this is a must-have feature for them. I couldn't locate any OS X IM clients that support MSN video chat, although rumors indicate the next version of the official client will support it. Does anyone know if any clients exist now for OS X that would work for them?
