A definite long shot, but I'm looking for the names of two of my favourite children's books from the '80's, these are picture books that were read to me about 25 years ago, and I'd love to find them for nostalgia's sake but also to read to my own children.
The first was about a little boy who follows a clown into his television, I think maybe at the boy's bedtime.
The second was about a boy and a monkey who go on adventures together, maybe to space, and I think there were trap doors or other neat ways of traveling. The illustrator of the book included these great doodles and tiny squiggles on every page (within the pictures not all over the text), and that's what I remember most, the great illustrations that were really intricate.

A few days ago, as I drove down I-69, I saw two semi trucks heading in the opposite direction. Each transported a long, narrow metal object. I would estimate each object was the length of three semi truck trailers. It mostly resembled a knife blade in color and shape - something like a chef's slicing blade. It seemed to look serrated toward what would resemble the tip of the knife. What the heck were they transporting?

So a while back I saw this video about a young man - I think he was a war veteran who was dying of a neurological disorder that slowly rendered him unable to move and then breathe. [more inside]

My SO became desperate for some encryption software, and couldn't wait for me to answer a text. She Binged, and downloaded something questionable that wasn't Adobe. She then clicked on a link in the questionable software and found a tech support number. She called the number, and turned remote access of the computer over to questionable tech support, that wanted more info to have her pay for tech support. She refused, but did grant remote access to the computer.
My main concern is that some unknown actor had remote access for possibly as long as several hours. There was almost no data on the netbook, which was purchased just a few weeks ago. But my SO had a USB drive plugged in that had a lot of sensitive data on it.

Hi Metafilter! Can you ID the song used as background music in this video
for me? I was unsuccessful at Googling it based on the (Spanish?) lyrics. The only phrases I can clearly make out are "esta no voy a perder" and the oft-repeated "Oye!"

I found a couple of these
in a bag of old clothes. The maroon "shell" is thin, rigid, and cracks under pressure (the one in the picture was originally whole). There is a ridge on one side (visible in the second picture) that looks like the result of being sealed in a machine. The inside is lighter, somewhat whitish, and looks a bit like the inside of a bean. When I squeezed one of them a sort of white fluid came out, which was sticky. The outside looks inorganic and the inside looks organic (although I guess the whole thing probably is organic). I haven't touched them with bare skin so I don't know how they feel. Any insight as to what this is? Thanks!

My younger brother is a foreign-born child of two naturalized US citizens. He has no picture ID except his school ID, and has had trouble obtaining a state-issued picture ID. He is turning 18 soon, which will make it much more difficult for him to fly, get a job, and so on. Is this something an immigration lawyer can help with, or is there another kind of professional that I can engage here? [more inside]

What type of tree is this
? I'm sure it's quite common, as they're found all over Chicago. There were no old leaves on the ground nearby, and I'm useless at identifying leafless deciduous trees unless they're white and peeling. Thanks.

I had a toy/game/math thing when I was young that I'd like to identify and possibly get a replacement or alternate version of. It was a plastic box that taught basic math skills. I hope my fuzzy memories spur your fuzzy memories into a resolution. [more inside]

I was just going over our flight info-my husband and I and our two adult daughters are flying out to Texas to my son's wedding. I just noticed that our travel agent used my younger daughter's maiden name instead of her married name (she is separated but not divorced.) The travel agent is calling me back in a bit but how screwed are we? [more inside]

I am currently without any valid identity papers in Québec, Canada, of which I am a citizen since birth. What is the best way to bootstrap myself back into valid identity, since it seems all identity documentation requests require one form of valid identity to go through? I still have an healthcard that expired a year ago.

There's a Boston-area shoegaze festival called Deep Heaven Now happening this weekend, and I'll be in Boston. The ads say 21+, and I'm not 21. How likely is it that I'll actually be carded? Is there a "draw Xes on your hands" option? (Also, if I can't get in, do you have any other recommendations for good live music on Friday night?)
