I'd like to make this little whisk, but can't figure out what knot it is. I looked through Ashley, and didn't see anything. Suggestions I've already gotten are Mathew Walker, diamond, crown and wall. But all of these knots look like they were tied in the middle of the rope. I've seen (and made) Des Pawson's Sailors Whisk, but it has a hanging loop, I just want the ball end.
Does anyone know the name of this actor, who plays a member of the national security team in a Presidential briefing in s7e15 of the show: 24? Thanks in advance!!
Can you identify this 1800s (?) Eastern/Central European novel based on the half-remembered description of an unintentionally hilarious sex scene? [more inside]
This is doing quite well on the SE side of my house in Northern Virginia. Some are over 6ft/2m tall. What is it?

I went to see Panic!/Weezer in Va Beach last week, in between bands they were playing music videos on loop. Others included Sia (♥︎), Dangerous (Big Data), Harlem (New Politics), and a bunch of other blah top 40 hits stuff. There was this one video, however, that I loved. Help me find the song! These little birds show up every day and hang out on my wife's car. It's really cute. I can't identify them though. I am in Wisconsin. Here's a quick video of them in action. It includes one of them trilling right near the middle.
We live in southwestern Ohio, and have these plants (photos at the link) coming up all around the lawn. They vaguely resemble catnip or some other mint-variety, but the leaves have no scent. They come up quickly and bloom quickly as well. What are they?
I need between 50 and 100 ID card lanyards, and ID cards, preferably all of them looking different. It's for one person looking like a scarecrow of IDs, he's helplessly overloaded by lanyards and cards. So they all have to be a bit different. [more inside]
What kind of plant is this, and how often should I water it?
I'm trying to locate a children's short story with an ending where this boy that lives in this town, illegally goes over a fence (maybe he was even shot) and the last thing he sees is a sign saying "Human Exhibit". [more inside]

Help me track down the manufacturer who made my vase & jug. I picked up the vase in a local charity shop a few years back. Last week my partner gave me the jug as a birthday present (another charity shop find). I LOVE my vase & my jug - and I'd love to know more about who made them and where/when. [more inside]
Back when Big Fat Liar aired on Disney Channel (I'd imagine shortly after it came out in 2002), there was a bumper for it with an original song. Help me find it. [more inside]

I'm trying to identify a sample from the first few minutes of this album. The sample occurs at 0:27, 0:47, 1:02, and so forth. It's the muted organ/electric piano chords; one chord played 4 times, followed by another played once. I know it sounds kinda generic, but I swear that this is a sample from a jazz or R&B song that I recorded off the radio in the mid-late 80s; in the original that second chord follows the same pattern as the first. This is driving me bonkers. Help!

Purchase of a cheap mask & snorkel has shown me that the surf zone of east coast beaches is an ecosystem chick full of crabs & fish & more- totally amazing! Within 2 feet of shore (in surf, not in tide pools) we recently found tiny puffer fish, pipefish & one mystery fish - what is this fish? pic 1 pic 2 (Found all over beaches of Martha's Vineyard. It's about 3 inches long, has wing-like fins that it uses to scoot along the sandy bottom. Some were all light brown, some had a lot more white. Pics look weird as the fish is inside an old 2 liter soda bottle.)
My wife has a very clear recollection of the following scene from a movie or TV show, but we can't figure out where it's from. The scene takes place at a 18th- or 19th-century fancy-dress party. A fop approaches a lady at the party and harasses (assaults? molests?) her. In response, the lady stabs the fop in the leg with something; my wife remembers the weapon as a small flag, but admits it might have been something else. [more inside]
Is this Giant Hogweed or something else? [more inside]

I'm an out-of-state student in Boston, and I lost my driver's license this past Thursday. I realized I lost it on Monday, so I've started carrying around my US passport for identification. I've called all stores, restaurants, and bars I've been to this weekend, and no one seems to have found it. What are my next steps? I am getting a duplicate license from my home state's DMV. Please help me out MeFi!!
I was stupid and put off getting a new ID (after a cross-country move, to the bay area in California) after my old one expired. I have a flight on the 18th. What do I do? [more inside]
I'm looking for a UK-oriented fungus identification online group or guide or website or book or Android app. Recommendations based on personal experience are most welcome. Poking around online has led me to a few places, like Mycokey, but either the varieties aren't listed or I'm just rubbish at describing what I've found. [more inside]
I feel as though I've heard this song in many places, but its lack of lyrics have made it difficult to search for. I've most recently encountered it in an episode of Louis Theroux's Weird Weekends. I suspect that it might be by Esquivel like the show's opening theme, but I haven't been able to find it based on that alone. This has been driving me crazy!
I saw a music video this weekend featuring a girl with longish blondish hair riding on a toy riding horse underwater, possibly in a pool. I was really chill, instrumental possibly. It was in a youtube playlist with similar types of music: sleep party people, gold panda, clams casino, youth, grimes, tycho etc. Please, oh please, help me find it!!!

A definite long shot, but I'm looking for the names of two of my favourite children's books from the '80's, these are picture books that were read to me about 25 years ago, and I'd love to find them for nostalgia's sake but also to read to my own children. The first was about a little boy who follows a clown into his television, I think maybe at the boy's bedtime. The second was about a boy and a monkey who go on adventures together, maybe to space, and I think there were trap doors or other neat ways of traveling. The illustrator of the book included these great doodles and tiny squiggles on every page (within the pictures not all over the text), and that's what I remember most, the great illustrations that were really intricate.
A few days ago, as I drove down I-69, I saw two semi trucks heading in the opposite direction. Each transported a long, narrow metal object. I would estimate each object was the length of three semi truck trailers. It mostly resembled a knife blade in color and shape - something like a chef's slicing blade. It seemed to look serrated toward what would resemble the tip of the knife. What the heck were they transporting?
So a while back I saw this video about a young man - I think he was a war veteran who was dying of a neurological disorder that slowly rendered him unable to move and then breathe. [more inside]

My SO became desperate for some encryption software, and couldn't wait for me to answer a text. She Binged, and downloaded something questionable that wasn't Adobe. She then clicked on a link in the questionable software and found a tech support number. She called the number, and turned remote access of the computer over to questionable tech support, that wanted more info to have her pay for tech support. She refused, but did grant remote access to the computer. My main concern is that some unknown actor had remote access for possibly as long as several hours. There was almost no data on the netbook, which was purchased just a few weeks ago. But my SO had a USB drive plugged in that had a lot of sensitive data on it. How FUBAR are we?
Hi Metafilter! Can you ID the song used as background music in this video for me? I was unsuccessful at Googling it based on the (Spanish?) lyrics. The only phrases I can clearly make out are "esta no voy a perder" and the oft-repeated "Oye!"
What's the name of this song that was played on a college radio station? [more inside]
