With the invention of eReaders and iPads I thought I would come across more fictional books online that are more interactive. The latest example of this that I read was Corey Doctorow's free PDF of Little Brother, which I loved becuase it hyperlinked to maps, destinations and really brought the neighborhoods and events to life. It also was great for reading at work, since I was viewing a PDF. I also saw this type of merging of fiction and references with our own Mefite Dobbs, who back in the day had a amazing email communication called Victory Shag, which were these weekly emails he would send that were about "his" fictional love life that often times had musical tracks and maps and neighborhood references embedded in the interactions. There must be more options out there. I don't own a eReader or an iPad, but just thought that that I would come across more talented writers that use more interactive oppurtunities. I might be out of the loop though, so suggestions would be much appreciated.

I need to show/hide a separate list of hyperlinks that in turn can also be clicked on to show another list of subheadings or text. Like a tree, I guess? The problem: I have to do this in Word.

How can I turn a long list of hyperlinks into either a list of filenames in Windows Explorer or a list of Favorites in Internet Explorer? Say I have 1,000 hyperlinks in a list so it is 1,000 entries long (could be in an Excel file, a Word file, or on a web page). I want to have these 1,000 hyperlinks as Favorites, which seems to be the same as converting them from the content of one file to the file names of 1,000 files. I can manually save each hyperlink as the name of a file, but if there are 1,000, and if they need to be updated every week, that would be a killer. I need an automated solution.

I'm setting up a little site that's like an encylopedia. I want the instant-linking that I've had in VooDoo pad (wiki)--when I type "Lincoln" it automatically links to the "Lincoln" page. But I don't need any other wiki features--this is not collaborative. Is there some way to just get that handy quick-link feature as I write my articles? Thanks, smarties!

How do I get hyperlinks in MS Office 2003 (SP1) to open in my default browser (Maxthon 1.1) rather than IE? I'm on WinXP SP2. Hyperlinks on the desktop or in other apps (e.g., Eudora) open correctly in Maxthon.

Can anyone recommend a program (in say perl or java or something) that will execute on my linux web server and a) slurp the file references in the pages (html, php) and b) compare them to the actual files in my web root tree giving me a list of all of the unreferenced files (not referenced on public web pages)? I want to clean up this junky file system, but I don't want to break any links and I inherited the mess. Thanks.

So, I manage a fairly high traffic website. But, there are a couple other websites that I'm involved with that I would like to link to off of my day job site for spidering reasons. If I just include these links on a couple of pages and hide them via comment tags, will the spider still go to them? Is this not up to search engine ethics? Are there search engine ethics? Thanks in advance.
