I have my heart set on an .is domain which spells out the name of my Australian website, but I'm restricted to using web hosts registered with the ISNIC (administers the .is gTLD), which means hosting from Iceland/Europe. Should I give up on it? (If not, can you recommend a host?) [more inside]

We've had 4 high-end dedicated servers with a hosting company for almost 2 years. Since then, technology has marched on and the servers they are offering new customers are much higher spec than ours - for the same price. Is it reasonable to expect them to upgrade our servers for free to bring them into line with their current offerings?

My boss wants to know what top companies pay for web hosting. I realize most would likely host internally, and that prices vary wildly. But lets just pretend that a Fortune 500 company wanted to outsource hosting of a non-database site. (Less than 20k visits a month, maybe 2GB space.) How might I go about figuring out what type of pricing they might come up against? Bonus for information online that might list specific top companies and what their costs are (or roughly are.)

I'm a web developer who has to handle a couple of my clients websites. Mostly small, static sites without much traffic, but a couple of Ruby on Rails websites too.
I don't particularly want to get a full-on reseller account as my clients don't really need to access their control panels and be billed through a separate system etc. At the moment I'm just using a decent hosting account with all of the sites running in their own domains.
I'd like to know what reseller tools you guys use to help you keep track of your various websites / monitor their progress and uptime / bill your clients for the hosting?

Posted for a friend: Do you use a digital service provider to host audio content on the web? If so, who do you use, and why? I'm looking to put up some audio books for someone- a 14 cd set, in fact.

that, I don't even know where to start. How do I go about doing this, who are the best providers, and where can I find additional

Is it acceptable for a website to reproduce around 20 images on their front page, approximately 150k each, from our website while keeping them hosted on our server? I've never really understood the etiquette or protocol in this situation, but our bandwidth suddenly doubled and it obviously wasn't hard to find out who the culprit was. There seems little point in linking to the sites in question, but what have others done in this situation? Thanks in advance.

Our client (Switzerland-based, but internationally operating) currently has companyname.ch as their main site. That's where all their sites' content is hosted. We've also set up companyname.ca and companyname-keyword.com for their international operations. Those sites are just one index.html page where all links then go to "companyname.ch/page=pageid&locale=ca" for the canadian site and "companyname.ch/page=pageid&from=com" for the keyworded site. We recently moved the canadian site's hosting from our servers in Switzerland to a Canada-based host for (minute) SEO reasons. Questions follow... [more inside]
