I just finished watching
The First World War and now I want more! Can you recommend your favourite documentaries on History, particularly conflicts/war? I prefer a geopolitical focus (as in maps of the territories, graphic representations of strategies, what countries unied, what empires were divided in to what, etc.)

148 years ago today, 37 yr old Union Gen John Buford took the 1st calvary division into Gettysburg, got the lay of the land fast, grabbed the high ground, setting the stage for Union victory after the next three horrific days of battle. What books and/or websites have you read which have given you a better understanding of this battle and the people who fought it?

A friend's 16 year old son has picked up an interest in history, particularly war memorials. She'd like to take him on a trip over spring break to encourage him but is lacking choices other than Civil War sites in VA/MD and the Pearl Harbor Memorial, both of which they've visited before. Places in the United States are preferable but she'd consider other English-speaking countries (she doesn't want to hire a tour guide). Where can they go to get a real sense of history and blow this teenager's mind?

I enjoyed Rick Atkinson's
Liberation Trilogy on WWII (so far) and Shelby Foote's
Civil War: A Narrative. What are similar narrative retellings for other wars? I'm particularly interested in something like this for the Napoleonic wars.

How was the Civil War .58 Springfield rifle reloaded? I understand that it was a percussion-cap rifle rather than a flintlock, and that it fired a muzzle-loaded minie ball. But what was the reloading process? What did the ammunition look like? There was no metal cartridge involved? How long did it take to reload and fire one of those things? Thanks, from a firearms n00b!

Where do I find data about 1940s newspaper circulation? I want to see what was going on with newspaper readership in the 1940s, before, during and after WWII. I think that newspaper readership went up during the war and am trying to find data to prove it! I'm looking for 1940s circulation statistics for some of the big newspapers (NY times, LA Times, Chicago Tribune & Christian Science Monitor). I am finding very little reliable information. Is there a reference librarian in the house who could point me towards a reference book or source?
