anti-depression tablets for chronic pain?

It's been about six months since I last brought up depression and taking tablets with my therapist. I think I'm going to bring it up again in my next session later this week. For those dealing with chronic health and pain issues, did you find anti-depressants helped you manage and maintain a semblance of normal function? [more inside]

sperm:widgets

A few years ago I attended a talk on women's wellness in which the speaker referred to the idea that in our male-dominated society, work quality/style is considered superior when the work is cranked out regularly (in the way that men produce sperm all day long), whereas a feminine perspective would be more cyclical (as in the menstrual cycle), with production of work involving periods of contemplation/incubation and rest and less volume of production. Does anyone know the origin or source for this concept? I don't think it was the speaker's original idea. [more inside]

Do I have "soft" teeth?!

Why are my upper left molars so fragile?! I am only 27, but my last three teeth are all dead and have cracked. I had a lot of cavities as a child, despite rarely having any sweets and a moderately good dental hygiene (okay, it wasn't impeccable, but it was not as horrible as some I've seen, namely my father who never brushed with no cavities at all) but as a teenager/young adult/adult my teeth were mostly fine and my brushing habits are much better nowadays. Within the last two years I've had two molars cracked. One losing a big chunk, the other down the middle and is not salvageable. All on my left upper side. [more inside]

Will Silly Archaic Art Form Turn Beloved Daughter into Quasiomodo?

My 4-year-old daughter is getting really into ballet. I've observed her standing in fifth position at home, on the train, etc. Is this going to screw up her musculoskeletal structure at some point? How to make and keep good habits?

ResolutionFilter: I really want to start slowly adopting new, healthier habits. As it usually does, the inspiration has hit me just before New Years. But I don't want to make a resolution, I want to establish habits that I can keep. I've tried before, but here's where I always fall down: how do I make the new habits stick? Is paying a therapist the difference between their rate and what insurance covers reasonable?

I see a therapist on a regular basis. I have health insurance with a small copay for these visits. Some time ago, my therapist asked that I pay the difference between the fee they bill for (their full rate) and the negotiated rate that my health insurance pays to them. This increases my out-of-pocket costs dramatically. Is there something odd about this arrangement?
