If roughly one hour lapses between the time I remove a container of yogurt from the refrigerated case at Whole Foods, to when I place it inside my fridge at home, does that temperature change kill off most of the live & active bacterial cultures? If I leave the container in the fridge unopened for a few more days, will they repopulate the container? Also, if acidophilus are "acid loving" bacteria, should I be eating yogurt after a big meal, instead of on an empty stomach?
I love snacking on the roasted seasoned seaweed available at Costco - but is it safe to eat in light of the Fukushima meltdown? The only product information I can find says it is a product of Korea. Should I avoid eating seaweed originating from any particular location?
Aside from preventing fishy burps, is there any significant nutritional advantage to taking enteric-coated fish oil supplements over their non-enteric coated counterpart? I’ve seen ads claim that the enteric coating helps to preserve the fish oil from stomach acid and bile until it reaches the small intestine - is there any scientific basis to this? Generally speaking, will the body utilize one better than the other?
I think I have Dry Eye Syndrome. Should I see an optometrist or ophthalmologist? Does it even matter? If you have personal recommendations about combatting dry eyes (medical, dietary, etc), I'm also interested in hearing about them.
Now that chestnuts are in season, I've been buying sacks of freshly roasted Chinese chestnuts almost every week and eating them like crazy. Problem is, I cannot locate nutritional information in a format that's easy to understand. For example, I don't have a food scale, yet almost every listing I find on Google has one serving of chestnuts as 100 grams. Also, how do I know if the nutritional info is referring to nuts still in their shell, or the actual nutmeats? Thanks to everyone in advance.
How do loratadine and diphenhydramine HCI work? Specifically, how is it that both can help control allergies, yet have different side effects? I'm particularly interested in how loratadine works without causing sleepiness, while a single 25 mg capsule of diphenhydramine is able to knock me out in a matter of minutes.
