Book recommendation for cycling nutrition: looking for something that details on and off the bike nutrition and cites studies and the physiology of what's happening when you ride/train. Something that seriously discusses supplementation, but steers clear of the hard stuff. I am an avid, but amateur, cyclist that wants something readable but not totally dumbed down.

I was researching sequential eating and would like some advice, here are my thoughts and questions: It seems that it takes (on average) 2-4 hours for foods or beverages to leave the stomach.
I was wanting to eat/drink something specific every two hours.
I have 8 hours to sleep every night, and I like to eat right before sleep as well.
This leaves me with 16 hours in a wakened state. Or, 9 segments of eating/drinking. (I drink water right when I wake up)
On the basis of sequential eating, what are some useful tips/advice I could keep in consideration while putting together snacks of 1-3 things?
It's looking like 4 meals a day, 5 drinks a day, alternating every two hours. OR, what I would rather prefer, is eating 9 meals a day (fruit in the morning with my water), and drinking 6oz of water every hour on the dot. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I would like to finally find a routine I can follow to eat healthy during the week and I am looking for book recommendations. Unfortunately, most nutrition/cooking books are very one-sided (only contain recipes, only discuss cooking skills, or only nutrition theory) and very biased towards some radical approach (vegatarian/vegan, very low-carb, very high-protein etc.). I am looking for the opposite - ideally a single book for learning about nutrition, cooking and planning your groceries and cooking so all the good advice is actually actionable considering having a 40-hour workweek; also without going into any dietetic extremes and based on sound science and actual practice. Details inside.

Aside from preventing fishy burps, is there any significant nutritional advantage to taking
enteric-coated fish oil supplements over their
non-enteric coated counterpart? I’ve seen ads claim that the enteric coating helps to preserve the fish oil from stomach acid and bile until it reaches the small intestine - is there any scientific basis to this? Generally speaking, will the body utilize one better than the other?

My wife and I have decided we'd like to make some fairly big changes to our eating habits. We eat relatively healthy as it is, but we'd like to set a goal of eating at least 51% "raw foods". We're a bit overwhelmed and would love some recommendations for recipe books, meal planning, grocery shopping, etc.

Prompted by
this comment, I'm here to ask what the deal is with
"calories" as a measure of "nutritional content" (whatever that means). I understand that the calorie value we see on food packaging is arrived at by burning the food in a calorimeter, and that this would be an effective measure of the total chemical energy in the substance. How well does this actually approximate the energy our body can put to use (mechanically, or for other biological processes)? Isn't this measure essentially useless for people trying to lose weight? Why do we put so much emphasis on it then? Are there some foods which have an astronomical number of calories which our digestive systems can do little with?

So, apparently corn is bad for cats but it's in all the foods I see in the store. Even at Wholefoods, all the brands have corn in it except for one. I haven't tried Petsmart yet, but I would like some ideas on what you guys use that don't contain corn. I don't mind ordering off the internet either.

I'd like nutritional advice for homemade dog food and maybe treats, using easy-to-find ingredients. I haven't been able to find high quality commercial dog food where I live, so I make most of her food myself, but I would like to make her homemade food as healthy as I possibly can with the resources I have, which are somewhat limited. "Small Red Beans". Do these really have 16g of fiber per 1/2 cup serving? I've seen them under the Goya, Iberia, and Wal-mart brands, all of them having 60 calories per 1/2 cup, with 16 grams of fiber. This is significantly more than every other type of bean.

Now that chestnuts are in season, I've been buying sacks of freshly roasted Chinese chestnuts almost every week and eating them like crazy. Problem is, I cannot locate nutritional information in a format that's easy to understand. For example, I don't have a food scale, yet almost every listing I find on Google has one serving of chestnuts as 100 grams. Also, how do I know if the nutritional info is referring to nuts still in their shell, or the actual nutmeats? Thanks to everyone in advance.
