I'm in Washington State with a Premera Blue Cross HSA HDHP. I'm maybe, finally, in a position to start funding an actual health savings account, not just pay my household's premiums (~$400/mo for two people) and treat my insurance as a lame catastrophic plan. I'm having trouble finding a good account provider, though, and would like some recommendations. [more inside]
I have $475 left on my deductible. I already received bills this year for $841 dollars that I've haven't yet paid on. Do I have to pay all $841 or will I start getting coinsurance after I pay $475. [more inside]

I am a trans woman. Recently, I received a job offer from a private higher education institution in New York City. I would really like to accept the job, but repeated conversations with the individual who recruited me—who has been asking questions on my behalf to the institution's Human Resources department—have left me unsure whether or not their health insurance will cover trans-related care. How do I get this information? Can I get this information? [more inside]
Hello all, I was laid off from my job in July and went to Europe for a few months. Now that I am back in USA, I tried to sign up for affordable care act via www.mahealthconnector.org/ only to find out this site is the reincarnation of the devil. I cannot finish my application for this health insurance because I get stuck on a page that requires me to put in my employer info. Now since I am unemployed I obviously do not have an employer. This site literally will not let me complete the rest of the application without entering a whole bunch of information on my current employer which does not exist! How on earth do people without jobs apply for this?? Does anyone else run into this frustrating issue? Is there any other health insurance I can sign up for?
Does anyone have any experience with purchasing health insurance through the Freelancer's Union? Any feedback on the process and level of satisfaction with coverage would be appreciated. [more inside]

I'm self employed. I need health insurance. My main concern is a random ER visit that will put me in debt for the rest of my life, so I told my wife not to worry about deductible prices, since I only need to go in once every few years anyway. She found something with a $4,000 deductible. And that was like $80/mo. The other ones were even more expensive. Is this price range right? Is this the only way to protect myself from crippling debt?
I'm talking the absolute BEST, at any price. [more inside]

I have recently lost my health insurance. While it is possible I will be reinstated to the plan I lost, which is provided in conjunction with my school, I need to be insured again ASAP, and I don't mind the possibility of doubling up on insurance for a short period of time. New Yorkers, do you know of any affordable (<$500 or so per month) plans I might be eligible for? I am a full time college student. [more inside]

I'm in the open enrollment period (also newly married) and am considering switching health insurance -- for the first time ever. I understand the fill-out-the-forms part, but I can't wrap my head around what that means logistically. What's the process? What should I look out for? [more inside]

Help me find health insurance. Moving back to the States with wife and two kids after being away for 10 years. May not have jobs when we return. What is the best way to find health insurance? I have no idea where to start or what my options are if we return unemployed. Moving to Texas if that is relevant.

Should I switch to a HMO? My company offers Kaiser Permanente's HMO, and it's a good bit cheaper than my current plan. People tell me that HMOs are evil, but the plan looks pretty good on paper. I'm in Washington, DC. [more inside]
I am on a high-deductible health care plan and have maxed out my plan year out-of-pocket expenses. Our plan year ends in 2 months. Since it won't "cost" us anything more out-of-pocket, what additional elective procedures or tests does it make sense for me and my family to get in the next 2 months? [more inside]

I was rejected for individual health insurance with Kaiser Permanente in Southern California due to the preexisting condition of bulimia. I have been told by Kaiser that I can appeal the denial by providing evidence that I have resolved the bulimia. The issue is I do not have much evidence and Kaiser gave me very little direction on how to proceed. If any of you have had experience with this, what type of information did you provide and how did you obtain it? [more inside]

I'm sure Kaiser Permanente and other major HMOs have plans related to a potential pandemic, and how they would try to protect their customers' health and/or minimize financial losses. Have the plans themselves been published or leaked? Has anything summarizing those plans been published anywhere?
I live overseas for 10 months a year. I am finding it very difficult to get health insurance. No preexisting conditions, no smoking, not obese, but I am only barely a resident of California, and this seems to be a tripping point. All I want is a basic, high deductible plan for emergencies. I am currently covered in Virginia (from a while back, never told them I moved), but since my residency is California now, they probably won't cover me. What are my options? I just spent 4 hours on applications and was turned down every time. Everything else I see on google looks dodgy.
