How to cope with living in an awful place

I'm 21 and still live in my parents' apartment. It's awfully messy with trash and clothes and clutter all over the place. My room (the only bedroom) is fairly cramped. To make matters worse my mom insists on putting laundry bags full of clothes in my room. And my 13 year old brother is going to move in my room soon. [more inside]

Choosing a school for 2 year degree in Diagnostic Medical Sonography

[Posted on a friend's behalf] I am researching schools for a 2 year degree in Diagnostic Medical Sonography. Though there are limitless wormholes about "top schools" I haven't been able to deduce which ones possess both quality programs and a balance of cost-effective places to live while obtaining this degree. I have a background in the visual arts and am now in my mid-40s, so this is an epic step forward in viewing the Big Picture. [more inside]

Blood pressure monitor won't inflate

I'm confined to the house for a week because of an illness (not bp-related) so can't go to the friendly local bp machine at the pharmacy. Should I get tested for strep throat?

My boyfriend just got diagnosed with Strep throat. His symptoms showed up Tuesday-Wednesday and I last saw him on Sunday. Now my throat hurts, but I'm also hungover. Should I get tested for strep? I'm paranoid because my tonsils are extremely reactive so when I get a throat infection it can get really really bad.

Responding to persistent personal informaion requests.

To the law people out there: I work for a small company that recently signed up with a new health insurance company. For various reasons I declined the coverage, but I am getting bombarded by requests for personal information. Here's the actual latest message that I received after I informed them that I do not wish to participate: Hi C13, For any employees at Small Company to get health insurance, you need to complete your application. All employees must complete an application, regardless of whether accepting or waiving coverage. [more inside]

Advice on a new blog I want to construct

I have run an ad-free blog for over 12 years. My site gets good traffic, is free, and I have enjoyed putting it together each day. Since I am retired and have lots of time available I thought of initiating another blog that would aim at boomers, those feeling the need to think of the future, retirement, health, and yes, even death and the inevitable pains of aging. What topics, issues, areas should I consider, and would you, as a reader of my question here, think such a free site might be of interest? [more inside]

How to deal with anxiety about actual health problems?

How To Convince Parents Not to Bring Their Sick Kids

Any good, scientifically-accurate media on retrograde amnesia?

Open to fiction and nonfiction; books, documentaries, podcast episodes, news articles, etc. Nothing that puts me to sleep, please. Would prefer newer works informed by the latest science and works that are more personal, emotional, and detailed, rather than removed, dry, and general. Also, while I realize anterograde amnesia is much more common, I'm really only interested in retrograde amnesia. What caused the RA does not matter.

Possible causes of my outbreak of aphthous ulcers

Need a site that focuses on diagnosis of really difficult cases.

I am writing this while at the Mayo clinic trying to find a diagnosis for my father who is very ill. After 2-3 misdiagnosis all from extremely reputable and knowledgeable doctors my family is nearing the end of our rope. I feel like we need a bulletin board or way of posting to a site where you can get informative off-the-cuff opinions from health detectives like the New York Times Diagnosis section. Another example is this DIY geneticist who found her gene mutation by seeing a photo of an Olympic medalist, link to Pro Publica story here which is fascinating. Is there anywhere to post a medical story and perhaps get some interesting new leads? With immense love and thanks, ejourdan
