In the 1952 cartoon short "Trick or Treat", any idea what Donald says after he wakes up from unconsciousness? I've never been able to figure it out! [more inside]
How can we make an umbrella costume for our 3-year-old that opens when he raises his arms and closes when he lowers them? [more inside]
Is it still considered OK to have cross-dressed costumes for Halloween? I mean like, Sonny and Cher, or Leia and Luke, only with the guy in the female costume and the woman in the guy costume. As a cis white guy who's trying to be more aware of my privilege, I don't want to be a jerk to the LGBTQ community.
I have been in a spooky mood lately and would like your recommendations for the SCARIEST movies available to stream on Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Instant Video, or HBO. [more inside]
Tell me your favorite scary, creepy, Halloween-ish shows for a middle school audience, that aren't so long they take up too much of a party. [more inside]
My 8 year old son cannot decide what he wants to be for Halloween. He has turquoise blue hair, which doesn't have to be part of his costume, but I mean, if you're going to have blue hair, you may as well make the most of it at Halloween, eh? [more inside]
Help me dress up like a Crossroads (as in, Blues musician Robert Johnson selling his soul to Satan at a crossroads).... [more inside]
I grew up in Ohio and trick or treat times would be scheduled and published in the newspaper. I'm in California now and can't seem to find scheduled trick or treat times for my town. Is it possible scheduling trick or treat is just an Ohio/Midwest thing? [more inside]
After my costume became a sleeper hit last year, I need help coming up with another fun costume for 2016! Help! [more inside]
So my tween has decided he wants to dress up as a cupcake princess this year for Halloween for a school event and general trick or treating. Advice for responding with something other than the string of cusswords and momma bear mode once people start saying something? [more inside]

Mrs COD and myself will be arriving in town on the 30th, and leaving on the 3rd. It looks like we will miss the parades and most if not all of the pre-31st activities. So what shouldn't we miss on Halloween itself, and what restaurants / museums, etc. should be put on our itinerary? I've been to N.O. once, for DrupalCon earlier this year. I was busy with the 'Con and saw little beyond getting to Frenchman's Street one night for some blues. WWII Museum is on my list. Beyond that - looking for ideas.
We're having a Halloween costume contest at work and I wanted to paint my face like a sugar skull. I've seen some great masks online in the finished stage, but the awesome pictures leave me with some questions about the how-to part. . . [more inside]

I'm looking for ensemble horror/mystery comedies set in sprawling mansions. Examples within. [more inside]
So, I'm attempting a "Stranger Things" Halloween porch decor theme this year, and one aspect of this will be a reproduction (or as close to one as I can get on a budget) of the Byers' living room, specifically the whole couch/wall-o-lights thing. And the one aspect of this that is stumping me a little is how to simulate that extremely period-appropriate brownish(?) wallpaper behind the couch, as seen here. How might I achieve this? [more inside]
I have this dress in a dark navy blue (I think they call it Marine, but it's darker in real life than in the photo.) I'd like to use it as the base for a Halloween costume! I'm 5'7ish, size 16, with red hair. Happy to wear a wig, crazy makeup, buy accessories, whatever! Any and all ideas appreciated!

What are your absolute favorite seasonal or holiday children's books? Bonus points: lovely illustrations; likely out of print or otherwise not on the front page of the relevant section of Amazon. [more inside]
For halloween this year I want to do something like this. as a costume. But if I just use the standard sticky backs that come on googly eyes I assume the eyes will constantly come unstuck and I am going to be leave a trail all around public transport and any party I go too. Is there an adhesive / substance that I can buy that I can use to securely yet removably affix googly eyes to my face and hands?
What are some well-known male character duos in pop culture? ...that would be fun to dress up as for Halloween?? [more inside]
I love Halloween and I love making art, so this year I'm planning to start early on a whole crop of Halloween cards that I will disperse far and wide. I'm trying to figure out a cost-effective way to make each one by hand. I don't know how many I'll need; I'm thinking of putting them in my Etsy shop for free as well as sending to friends. Info about art skills and card preferences inside. [more inside]
My girlfriend and I both really like Halloween and we both really like the Netflix show Stranger Things. So much so that we're throwing a Stranger Things themed Halloween party. Help us do that! (all of the spoilers inside, but if you haven't seen Stranger Things, just go ahead and fix that and come back) [more inside]
I've been invited to a friend's Halloween party again this year and am looking for some good homemade costume ideas. [more inside]
Where can I download or view a "Hell House" script, as used by Christian churches to warn teens of the evils of abortion, homosexuality, etc? (These used to be sold as kits, but I can't seem to find where to order one.) A scene by scene breakdown would also be useful... Thanks in advance, sinners!
I am getting married on Halloween this year and after a few months of trying to find a unique dress for the occasion and kept coming back to one that I love, both for the personal touch (I have always loved bats since my childhood), appropriate for the elaborate-ness I was wanting to go for, and perfect for the vintage Halloween theme I had in mind. Where do I start? Many questions from someone with very little experience in the seamstress / costume industry. The original image that inspires the look is here. More below the fold of what I've found online. [more inside]
I’m looking for those terrible candies that you resented in your Halloween loot bag as a kid. I need to buy some, ideally online. Must ship to Canada. My Google-fu is failing me, only turning up out-of-stocks from Halloween. There has got to be somewhere that stocks them year round. What store/site is this?
I accidentally purchased a child's Halloween costume instead of an adult-sized one when ordering online. I used one piece of the costume (hat), so I can't return it, but the rest has never been worn, so I'd like to donate it. Googling turns up donation drives from 1-2 months ago, but nothing in November. DC MeFites, can you think of anyone who would take this? Preferably in DC proper, does not need to be tax-deductible.
OK, I have done some googling, but no good finds yet -- I need help with last-minute Halloween costume ideas using a short pink wig and my own glasses... I'm average weight and pretty short.
I bought a tube of silver cream makeup for my halloween costume weeks ago! I thought I was so prepared, but now I'm realizing when I apply it to my face, it doesn't really seem to dry. I'm not close to any costume stores, unfortunately, but I do have a pretty well stocked drug store nearby, what should I be putting on on top of this to ensure that my face is not wet all night? Or alternatively, have I just not been waiting long enough-- how long should this stuff take to dry?
I just finished a trial run of my Donald Trump Halloween face makeup (like this) and I'm pretty happy with the results. However, given my personal opinion of the man, I don't want my costume to be some sort of homage, so I'd like to add a funny or ironic twist. Puns are acceptable. [more inside]
I picked up a hideous hard plastic fanged ghoul mask at a central California valley supermarket for .49¢. It looks like this fellow, only more colorful. I want to "be" this thing for Hallowe'en, but I don't want to spend the night with gross slimy plastic on my face, especially as there are no breathing holes. How can I easily suspend a traditional plastic mask an inch or three in front of my face? It has big eye holes and tiny side holes to hold an elastic head band, but is otherwise a solid sheet of plastic.
I found a ridiculously cool vest at the thrift for $1.99. Help me turn it into a Halloween costume. [more inside]
This Halloween animation about a kind witch and two children aired on broadcast television sometime in the early 1980s. Because I was only 6 or 7-years-old, I remember very little. Please, help me this identify this show. [more inside]
I'm trying to find a place to purchase some special effects contact lenses like the type here. Due to the proximity to Halloween I'd ideally like to purchase them locally in San Francisco. I tried calling Kryolan and asking for leads, but they had none. Neither did my optometrist's office. I'd also happily look at an online retailer that offers expedited shipping.
This is a weird question about a fantasy my son has about "cooking" with Halloween candy. For months he's been talking about making "Sweet Stew," a "recipe" he made up in which the Halloween candy is ground up in the food processor and then mixed with peanut butter. Is there any real recipe for something we can make with Halloween candy? [more inside]
My Halloween costume is this awesome bear hood, which I would like to make more awesome with a little customization. Suggestions welcome. [more inside]

My Halloween costume is just a regular old undead sort of demon: black eyes, horns, and a very white face. My intent is to have a scary pale, almost paper-white visage, but I want it to look less thick/flat and more 'natural' than standard clown grease paint. I have no makeup application experience whatsoever. Can you help me figure it out? [more inside]
My son wants to be "The King" from the movie Cars. I can't find any pre-made costumes for this guy. I'm not crafty. How? [more inside]
I want to make some foam superhero masks for my kids, that follow the face pretty closely, but don't have to be super accurate. I don't want to go too complicated, so most special effects tutorials are out, besides they (8 and 4 years old) aren't inclined to sitting still while I tinker. [more inside]
