Need to password protect a directory on my site in a fashion that allows me to see which approved users are logging in, and when. I know .htaccess will let me do do the security and the separate accounts, but can I get a report on user activity? Or is there a better way?

I've been using FeedDigest to convert and embed an RSS feed into an HTML page, and love the simplicity of it and the ability to customize the look of the embedded results. What is the best resource, be it a site, book, whatever, to assist those unlucky enough to have to create stationery files for MS Outlook 2003? CSS supports seems inconsistent, and even table-based layouts don't behave as expected, or even as they do in IE.

I'm a graphic designer for a non-profit who has been drafted into something of a web role. I'm comfortable with design, HTML, and CSS, but feel rather ill at ease with larger 'back-end' technologies. I would greatly appreciate any suggestions for what technology I should learn, and the best book (or other method) by which I could do so.
