My organization has tapped me to write and define IT policies and procedures. What are some examples of level-headed policies I can show them and won't turn us into one of those organizations where people end up tunneling to their home computers to check their gmail?

HR/YANML filter: One of my assistants had an on-the-job injury today, and at the hosptial, they failed to give her the pee test drug screening that our company requires. She's concerned that they may use that as basis for claiming that she refused the test, and therefore will be on her own for the expense. I don't feel like this is the case, but I wanted someone with a more informed answer to help me reassure her.
So, do they have the burden of proof if they claim she refused? How long after the event can they require it?

I'm looking for advice on how to conduct a job interview with someone much older and with much more experience than me. The problem: his resume is seriously fishy. There's some technical information in here, so input from professional software geeks is particularly appreciated.

Let's say you are a mission-critical player for your company, but for a number of reasons, it's time to move on... and of course, you don't intend to broadcast your decision to management
while you're hunting. How would you pursue new opportunities while treating your current employer ethically?

I was turned down for a job. The reason given was that they couldn't match the salary range that I could get from other jobs. Is this a common "polite lie" among employers or is this the actual reason for me not getting hired?

I wish to move to a new position within my company (in a different dept) but my boss won't sign my internal job application because he says he needs to find a replacement first. Whilst this sounds reasonable, I believe this to be an excuse which he can and will use indefinitely, and that he has no intention of attempting to replace me but wishes to delay my ability to get the new position long enough for it to become no longer available.
Tomorrow I'm meeting with our HR rep to discuss this, and I don't think it's going to go in my favor because we're already losing several people and I'm sure they want to plug the hole. What other options of recourse do I have if the HR guy is unable to help me out?

Applicant tracking software. Does anyone have any experience with the multitudes of hosted applicant tracking software providers out there (for posting jobs and managing resumes internally)? Currently, our company is testing out Prohire, but as the person who handles the website, I find it to less than desirable from a code standpoint and from a customer service standpoint. It is affordable at around $300 a month. Does anyone have any recommendations?
