We have a PC (purchased within the last year) and an HP OfficeJet J6480 printer (a few years old). Last week we switched our wireless connection from an AT&T DSL to AT&T UVerse. We networked both the computer and the printer. (I networked the printer BOTH from the computer and on its own through the glass panel--there is no way the thing is NOT networked at this point.) I reinstalled the printer software with the latest download from the HP tech support site. We tried connecting the printer to the computer directly with a cable. We have turned the computer, printer, and router on and off until we're blue in the face. The printer has two full cartridges of ink. It says it's the default printer and that it's online. It even SAYS it's printing something when I send a document to it--and then two minutes later it says sorry, can't print. WHY are the computer and printer not communicating? Is their relationship doomed forever? [more inside]

Does anyone know a quick work-around for installing an HP Laserjet 1012 printer on a new Dell running on Windows 7 Professional?
I have the original set up disk for the printer, but that doesn't work (and I don't get an explanatory error message).
HP's website says that it is not supplying a driver for this printer for Windows 7.
I am guessing that there is a work-around for this, and that someone out on the green might know what this is. I'd be grateful!

Anyone have a good/safe source for a driver for the HP Laser Jet 1000 - difficulty Windows 8.1?
The printer is a workhorse but my dad just "upgraded" to a new computer with 8.1 and I'd like to find him a way to use this printer.
It's an ancient printer and HP long ago stopped supporting it (of course, because HP).

My Windows 7 PC (HP H8-1300z) has been working quite fine for the past 2 years but it recently began acting up and I can't figure out why. Everytime I attempt to do a copy/paste (backup) with large volume of folders from one drive to another (external) the PC freezes. The fan also randomly goes crazy for a minute or two and then stops. I have an old HP Pavillion (I think) laptop. It has two standard USB ports, and then two others that are almost the same size as USB ports, but not quite, and any USB items I plug in do not get recognized by the computer. Anyone have any clue what they might be?

We're trying to optimize our home printing. We don't print an enormous amount, but we want to print in color and to be able to print in moderately high quality.
You've already solved this problem and put some thought into minimizing cartridge expense: what printer do you use? how often do you replace the ink? do you refill the cartridges at a store or buy new ones from the OEM?
(Bonus points if you've solved this problem for the HP 8600.) [more inside]

I have a HP Elitebook 8530p and recently after I have logged on it just sits there with a blue, slightly floral but otherwise blank screen and nothing else happens. I am able to start in safe mode, which is what I'm in now and I've done a system recovery which worked once, but I don't want to have to do that every single time I start the computer. So what do I try next?

I've seen something that pops up interrupting what I'm doing. It's from HP, it pops up a black box. I may have uninstalled it.
Now my friend has the same problem. I want to make sure that I uninstall/deactivate the right thing. What's it called?

Sorry to be asking this question here, I have tried the usual places but no luck.
Just bought HP Officejet Pro 8600. I am running OS 10.6.8, ran a software update and installed my drivers online. Set up went well, I can wirelessly send commands to print diagnostic things like cartridge alignment, network status print outs etc. All that stuff works. I am supposedly successfully set up. Documents however do not print and just idle in the print queue. Went through same set up with pc and it works fine. I can't figure out what's blocking me, no error messages, all seems ok except for the silence of the printer. Any ideas?

Can I simply physically replace the 1366*768 LCD in my HP EliteBook 8440p with the 1600*900 part
and have the laptop autodetect the new screen and show the proper resolution? Or is there extra logic or connectors or dongles or whatever in the main body that must also be modified in order for the display to work, (or maybe it Just Won't Work)? Put simply, is HP 594090-001 plug-and-play? [more inside]

I just got a cheap-o HP printer that features two sided printing. It seems to print on one side, suck the paper back in, and print on the other side. Does anyone know how this works? Does it flip the paper over? My guess is that it loops it back in (back facing down), probably raises the heads, and "prints upside down" the other side.
But I'd love to see a diagram or video. Can't find one, though.

Is there a better printing app for the iPad than HP eprint or Apple Airprint? One that allows you to print directly to a printer over wifi (i.e., without having another computer running and connected to the network), offers legal size printing and photo print sizes other than 4x6? Thanks!

So every time I restart Firefox, I have to go in there and change it back to 100% before I print anything. I can't figure out how to change it back. Is this a Firefox thing, or a printer thing? I bought a new computer (stalkers may check out my previous 'asks') running 64 bit windows 7, and I'd like it to connect to my HP 6840 wireless printer; that is, I need an appropriate driver. HP's website says that windows 7, has the driver built in and all I have to do is connect the printer via usb cable and stand back. Well, I tried that and several other things but my Windows 7 home, even after running update, has no driver for my printer (which it correctly identifies). HP tech support is of no help, merely repeating the same advice as the web sites I've already seen. I know such a driver exists because other people have solved this problem. How can I get it?

However, when I insert a disc of any kind, it doesn't read it. I'm currently running Windows 7 x86 fine and everything runs great. I did however run a routine pc audit with Belarc Advisor
and noticed my PC was "64-bit ready". Here are the details of my dv6700 (dv6780se as stated on the bottom sticker)
--1.67 gigahertz Intel Core2 Duo--
--64 kilobyte primary memory cache--
--2048 kilobyte secondary memory cache--
--3072 Megabytes Usable Installed Memory--
System info does state I'm running a 32-bit OS. I have access to a win 7 x64 and would assume a performance increase.
Also HP dropped all support of windows 7 drivers on older machines.
