How to fix the LOUD and the quiet on my TV?

When I watch a movie on my TV, the audio is very LOUD and the dialogue is often quiet. I have to turn up the volume--way up--to hear dialogue and then BAM! An action scene with lots of explosions and heavy music forces me to turn it way down. The constant switching drives me nuts! [more inside]

Why did The Walking Dead look like crap on my new 50 inch LED HDTV?

How to make a TV appear broken ...without breaking it

We have a basic Toshiba LCD HDTV (2 yrs old). I want to disable it for the next six weeks so no one can use it. I.E. it needs to appear as if it is broken, but it really isn't. I need to make sure all plugged in peripherals (DVD, Wii, AppleTV, antennae, and cable TV) cannot be viewed. Any ideas?

My TV is dead.

I have an Olevia LCD TV bought in 2008. For about a week, it would have no sound on any input after being turned on but a quick power cycle would fix it. Now it's stone-cold dead. No glowing LED on the power button like normal and it is definitely plugged in properly to a live outlet. What should I do now? [more inside]

Help me stop killing my eyesight in Mac OS on an HDTV.

A MacOS n00b (me) seeks knowledgable a MacOS user to help him with a problem. I've connected my brand new Mac Mini to an HDTV via an HDMI cable. I'm running it in 1080p since I bought the mini to use as an HTPC. But in this resolution, system text (such as the wind name, the URL bar in Safari etc) is killing my eyes. It's pretty small and barely readable from my couch. How do I fix this?

HDTV antenna amplifier recommendation?

HDTV antenna amplifier recommendations? I live in an apartment in a downtown area and the TV reception is poor even with my antenna designed for fringe reception. My current antenna amplifier is a Winegard HD200 with forward gain of 24dB which definitely helps, but can you recommend an even more effective amplifier for O.T.A. reception in the U.S.? Sometime back there was a recommendation to hook two amplifiers in series but my experience doing that showed a decline in performance and I think the theory states that reflection of signal back toward the source can diminish any improvement, ie the gains of two amplifiers in line are not additive. If I can get the amplifier thru Amazon, that's a plus. Thanks.

How does HDTV output sound on Sonos speakers? I only see an analog in on the back of the speaker set. I am thinking about using an S5 as the primary speakers in my medium sized living room. One Home Entertainment System to Rule Them All

I would like to buy a home entertainment system. I would like to listen to music, watch television, movies, and play videogames. I would like to have Netflix. I would like to stream media from my network or the cloud. I want great sound but I am not an audiophile, although I am not averse to spending a lot on speakers. I do not want to spend more than 8 hours doing research. I will spend up to $2500-$3000. How do I attack this problem? Can you recommend specific TV's, receivers, speakers, or stuff like a Roku box? Can you recommend sites that provide easy to understand, objective reviews of equipment like TelevisionInfo? I do not want to hit the forums if I don't have to. Can you recommend specific configurations of equipment or point me to sites that supply this information. I feel like if I don't get pointed in the right direction, I am going to over analyze this and spend far too much time that I don't have. I just want a rocking home entertainment solution for my family that I won't want to upgrade a week later.

LED LCD HDTV? I'm looking to finally replace my 1998-vintage CRT with a Samsung 40" LED LCD @120 Hz (model #UN40C6300SF). The Pink Screen of Death?

OK, I've almost given up. I try to connect my HP G60 laptop (Windows 7) to my Olevia (I know) HDTV and the TV screen wants to be magenta (pink!). Not totally pink, just the colored bits. The white parts stay white. I'm using a 6-foot HDMI cable. I have had a proper picture in the past, but I cannot for the life of me figure out a stable combination of settings. Anybody else experience that? Any solution to the pinkness?
