I recall reading an auto-biographical story a few years ago about a guy in California who was arrested after being accused of beating his girlfriend. He wrote about how he always made sure to use his credit card and to look into surveillance cameras to establish his whereabouts if he were falsely accused in the future. If I recall, the police investigator also went out on a limb to help the guy when the girlfriend's story didn't really check out. Anybody recall this story? If I remember it correctly, he somehow cleared his name in a civil proceeding. I'd like to figure out how he forced the issue to clear his name.

Apparently many successful software companies have processes where engineers write daily status updates that are publicly visible. Google has a system called 'Snippets' and Facebook has 'Colbert'. Any insiders want to share their experience with such reporting tools? Does anyone know of any resources that describe the pros and cons, nut and bolts of these processes? [more inside]
In short: how do I sync all my contacts between Mac OS X Address Book, iOS, iCloud.com, and Gmail.com? Not as short: In olden days, I used the Address Book app on my Mac to store all my contacts. Everything in there would sync to MobileMe (and by extension, iPhone, iPad and me.com) and Google (for Gmail). After iCloud was released in October, turning on contact syncing between Address Book and iCloud resulted in a message that said if iCloud contact syncing is turned on Google syncing must be turned off. Googling tells me that lots of people are having this problem, but I'm not finding a solution within all the noise. What am I missing? Any settings to change? Any software? Thanks in advance.
I have been very careful not to have my full name or my child's name associated with our address on any searchable documents due to privacy/custody concerns. Google Reader seems to be permanently displaying an error message when I first try to access my feeds. To recap the specifics of my problem, here's what caused it to come up in the first place, and what I've done to try and solve it. 1) Imported all of my feeds from another Reader account. 2) Attempted to access my new Reader account, which always results in the "You don't have permission to view this feed." error message. I can then click on "All Items" and access my feeds, but this extra step is really annoying (it's the internet, don't make me click twice ;). 3) Checked to see if the address is "https" and not "http". Yes, it's "https" 4) Tried deleting all of my feeds, starred items, etc, and then subscribing to a brand new one. The problem remains. Anyone know what might be causing this? Can I just delete this Reader account (w/o deleting my Gmail, GPlus, etc.) and start again? Also, yes, I asked this question on Google's forums months ago and haven't received any useful advice there. Probably because Google doesn't really care about its users. Oh, and this is on all browsers and all different computers.
I took out an advertising package with Apartments.com. This is no cheap proposition, at $2,000 for 500,000 impressions. I wasn't expecting much out of this, but was hoping for at least the 0.05% the apartments.com rep claimed was their average, considering that our company is in the moving industry and has some impressive accolades under our belt all mentioned in our ad. 50,000 impressions in and my apartments.com contact claims there've been 18 clicks (0.03% CTR). However I only see 6 originating from apartments.com, 2 of which were just me testing out the ad. [more inside]

My iPad 2 usually is usually asleep with its Smart Cover closed. Recently, after leaving it asleep for several days, I took it somewhere without network access and used Google Currents, but found all the articles were several days old. I have Settings > Sync > Update set to Automatic, but apparently that doesn't help if I don't have the device on (or maybe if I don't run Currents). Is there a way to get it to wake up every day and update Google Currents without me having to do it manually? [more inside]

Gmail + Thunderbird = spamfree email? I use gmail (via google apps) for my small company's email. While it is generally good, the inability to permanently block a sender (e.g. businesses who won't remove me from their spam list) is frustrating, especially when the senders keep appearing in the daily quarantine report. Could this be solved by using Thunderbird as an IMAP client (and “whitelisting” the senders in Postini so they don't appear in the quarantine report)? Is there an easier or more elegant solution? TIA.
