How can I download all attachments to an email sent to my Gmail account without them (necessarily) being downloaded as a zip file? [more inside]
I can't remember what I changed my Gmail password to when I reset it last month, and I no longer have access to my recovery email address. I can still access my Gmail from my phone, but I can't get in to my Gmail account on any browser! Is there any hope for me? [more inside]
I'm subscribed to a listserv with my Gmail address. I've never received an email from this listserv. They're not in junk or trash or categorized mail. The listserv manager can forward me a message, and I can receive it. The listserv manager has confirmed that my email address wasn't mis-entered and is not getting any bounce back notifications. I am on OSX 10.9.5 running chrome.Want to print out my Uber receipts but can not. The system stalls while trying to do print preview and nothing prints. Oddly enough I CAN print other emails without any problem. Ideas of a fix?
Several times over the last month my email has been used to sign up for many accounts on job sites like Monster, CareerBuilder and Dice Advisor. They use variants of my gmail address (e.g. firstname.lastname@example.org, email@example.com) to sign up about 20 times, and since the sites don't have email verification, I get bombarded by recruiter emails. Why? And what can I do about it? [more inside]
I can’t figure this out. At the start of this month, I got an email at the junk mail account I have at yahoo, informing me that an account had been created in gmail that’s only two characters off from the gmail address that I use as my main e-mail account. What’s going on? [more inside]
I am transitioning from Comcast to Gmail during a house move. Is there a way to increase the size and bold the gmail font? (OLD EYES)!

Google Apps used to be free when you only required a single email account with your own domain, using this App Engine trick. Does it still work?
I recently switched from Chrome to Safari on my MacPro desktop (OSX El Capitan). When I view my Gmail in the Safari browser, all the labels (tags) on previous emails are missing. [more inside]

When my laptop (MacBook Air) wakes up from sleep, I have a really hard time reconnecting to Google stuff: my Gmail, my google docs, even just plain old google.com. At the same time that all of this is happening, I can connect to all sorts of other web pages. [more inside]
My company switched from using Office365 to Google for our online stuff, and the one thing I miss is the ability to filter emails based only on the message body. In Outlook, you could filter based on just the message body and on the actual html of the message. I can't figure out how to either of these things in Gmail. Is there a way to do it?
My gmail inbox is different and I don't want it to be. How do I make it like it was before? [more inside]

I am trying to back up my Gmail account to my home computer, a MacBook Pro. I am able to sync the account and have downloaded most of my messages/attachments, but the native Mac mail program only downloads messages as far back as 2006. (My Gmail account goes back to 2004.) Disk space is not a problem. I have also made sure the setting for limiting the number of messages to download is not checked. Any other ideas? Thanks!
I have used gmail for my domain's email for over ten years now. Last Thursday morning my account (which was the administrator on the domain) was disabled. The exact message is "Google has detected unusual activity related to your account and temporarily disabled it." I submitted a support form, and got back a response saying to contact my domain administrator (which, as I said, is the account that was disabled.) A second submission yielded a response that basically said, "It's under review, don't bug us again." Online searches for ways to resolve this are not giving me much hope. Can anyone offer some solid advice? [more inside]
I have been invited to join a google group for work. I do not want to join with my personal email. I have received the invitation via my university address. I cannot seem to accept the invitation. [more inside]
If Gmail detects that you've previously sent the same text in another email, it turns the text purple and sometimes cuts it off with an ellipse as if it's an older threaded message. The problem is that I send a lot of similar emails to different people. I tailor them to the person, but that one paragraph that I copy pasted from an old email will still turn up purple and possibly be cut off with my signature. [more inside]
Weird problem started showing up recently. I'm using Gmail on Android and it isn't including (quoting) the text of the email that I'm replying to. I've checked the box to do so, and the quoted text even shows when I'm composing the email, but then it isn't actually included when the email gets sent (only what I wrote is sent). What the heck?
Hi Metafilter, I recently joined a team that needs some simple way of tracking who's doing what in regards to answering email. [more inside]

I've been using Thunderbird a very long time. It's mostly great, but it's tied to my single work computer. The address book, complete with recipient photos; send messages; archived messages in a huge set of folders. What's a good web-based alternative? (Hint: not Gmail.) [more inside]
I need a better calendaring option. Must be as simple as possible or I won't use it. Super long details inside. [more inside]
I'd like to send the same email to a group of about 40 people, but instead of sending it BCC with me in the "to" field, I'd really like to send it individually to each person. Is there a way to automate this? [more inside]
I want to frequently request/require a group of people to update their email signature for their business email (run on gmail). I also want to make it as easy as possible. [more inside]
A federal agency uses gmail as their email service provider. I use this federal version of gmail as part of my job and need to be able to find and reproduce gchat/gtalk/hangouts exchanges I've had with colleagues. Why is this so hard? Why. [more inside]
I have gmail set up to grab my domain mail and it has always worked well. I forced it to check once manually a few days ago and now it has stopped doing it automatically for hours at a time. How can I fix this? [more inside]

I got Nylas N1 for Windows today. Looks pretty, seems cool for developers, but is there any way I can use it? [more inside]
I have an Android phone using lollipop. I would ideally like gmail to sync at multiple frequencies -- more often on wifi, less often on data, never overnight. But this isn't an option with the gmail app, which is push (my poor battery) or manual (I forget, then it acts up). What are the best options to have my phone do what it wants? I'm ok paying for an app, changing my mail app, etc.
I have a gmail account and want to potentially send an email to everyone who has ever emailed me (thousands of people). This is a one time thing, not something I anticipate ever doing again. Is there any way to do this? How would you go about doing it?

I'd like to be notified on my iPhone for email from one or two specific email addresses. I have gmail. I have it set up as my mail account on the phone. How can I be notified of only specific mail, not all incoming? [more inside]
I have an Gmail account with an unprofessional-sounding handle—think Schnookums2318@gmail.com. I've been using this for far too long. Firstname.lastname@gmail isn't available, but firstname.lastname@example.org is, and so I took that one. How can I merge the two accounts, or otherwise transition from Schnookums to FirstMiddleLast with a minimum of trouble? [more inside]
I have an extremely common first and last name and was "lucky" enough to procure email@example.com about a decade ago. I'm used to the normal problems this entails, but now I'm noticing a new one that puzzles me. [more inside]
I want to save all emails with a certain label in my gmail account to one big text document. How would you do that? I'm on a Mac (I assume I will need to use an email client app to do this).
Some time ago, I took the misguided step of setting up a filter in gmail to send all emails from Sierra Trading Post straight to trash. Then I'd still be able to access the discount codes if I wanted to buy something, but I wouldn't be tempted by/inundated with emails during non-shopping periods. I've since deleted the filter, but gmail still sends all emails from STP--including order confirmations--to trash. Even weirder, I cannot seem to undelete the messages. What is going on? Does Sergey Brin have some evil scheme to be the only person with cool outerwear? [more inside]
My brother just got a new Blackberry. (I know.) And a new phone number. He uses Verizon in New York. When he sends me a text, his messages come to my Gmail account as emails from [hisnumber]@vtext.com. Whyyyyyyyy? Please help make it stop. [more inside]
I access four different email accounts from my gmail web browser. One of these accounts is for a job I have providing customer service for a business. I am supposed to keep track of the time I spend because I get paid hourly. Is there any automated app or way to track the time spent with a specific gmail account? Using chrome on Windows 8.1 Thank you.
I am constantly having to sign in again on Gmail, Facebook, and Twitter on my laptop (2014 Macbook running Yosemite and generally using Safari browser, but same issue occurs when I use Chrome too) even though I select the option for the browser to remember to stay signed in and to remember my laptop & browser. There's at least one other person in the USA who shares my firstname, lastname combo. I signed up for my Gmail account 10+ years ago. It's firstname.lastname so it also works with out the ".". I've lately been getting more email intended for this other person. [more inside]
I'm switching hosts. I'm using gmail to run a domain specific email account. think firstname.lastname@example.org as an example. I switched providers to GoDaddy. They've been incredibly helpful. But I can't get the E-mail to work right. [more inside]
So, I have a standard Notes app on my iPhone and iPad. Lots of problems lately with reading/deleting mail on both, particularly with Yahoo!, so I deleted my Yahoo! and Gmail accounts and downloaded the particular apps for each instead. Then I made a note in the Notes app and to my dismay saw that most of my notes had disappeared. I googled this and learned that the Notes app may have assigned my notes to the email accounts I deleted (why?) but searching those online email accounts has only uncovered some, not all, my missing notes. iCloud doesn't have them either. Are they gone forever, hive mind? Can you think of something I've missed?
How do I find out the origin of an automatic reply that does not appear to originate from the actual email address I sent the message to? [more inside]
I'm using gmail for work and while I've used gmail for years for personal things, I hate it for work. I liked having a dedicated app (Outlook) that didn't get lost in 5,000 tabs I had open. Also, the whole meeting/calendar experience takes more clicks than Outlook does. I must be doing this wrong, is there an app or something that helps ease this? From my understanding using Outlook with Gmail over IMAP isn't a great experience so I've shied away from that. I'm on OS X if that matters.
