My longtime friend of more than 20 years is having a formal cocktail party to celebrate his recent engagement to his partner. The invite says no gifts, but I definitely plan to bring a gift. This friend is very special to me. Given this is an LGBT couple (not sure that really matters here, isn't a cocktail party a cocktail party whether it's a gay or straight couple?) I would appreciate your gift ideas. Thank you!

What is the best way to give a gift card to help pay for plane tickets for domestic US travel? It can't tie the recipient down to a particular airline and it must be a gift card, so please don't tell me to give cash. That would obviously be best.

We are getting married in 4 months, and I'd like to get her something that is unique to this very unique year -- I mean, she will never be my fiancee again!
Any ideas for a meaningful gift?
(fwiw, she is a bit romantic and sentimental, but pretty sophisticated. A little cutesy, but not too often. Definitely not showy. Loves her cat, travel, baking, reading.)

Hi! I'd like to give someone the gift of a charity donation to a gun (well, anti-gun) charity. Can anyone recommend one -- esp. if they have the option of "gifting" a donation rather than just making one? And how do you actually give a charity donation to someone if that "gift" option isn't available? Just let them know? A receipt seems tacky. Thanks!

When we were in London we saw a fun craft-toy called Sticker Scratcherz
at both Hamleys and Harrods. We figured we'd find something like it elsewhere as well, but haven't had any luck, so I'm hoping maybe a mefite knows of something else like this. Preferably, it would be not as expensive, for a bit less content (if it were half price for half the amount of stickers it would make a great casual gift). [more inside]

His birthday is coming up, and I want to send him a gift that won't generate logistical problems for him. [more inside]

My father is gifting me his shotgun. He and the gun are in Maryland. I am in New Mexico. Googling tells me that if he handed to me in person there would be no issues and no paperwork required. It also tells me that to be shipped interstate the gun can't be shipped to me directly but must be shipped to someone with an FFL. Apparently My father can ship it out even though he does not have an FFL but the recipient must be licensed. [more inside]

So my fiancé and I have already picked out our wedding rings and will be getting them (coincidently) exactly one year before our wedding. Our engagement party is the following night.
I want to surprise her with this ring box
Only problem is the company does not ship to Australia. What are my options and roughly how much would postage cost to Brisbane, Australia.

Trying to come up with inspirational sayings for boundary enforcement, something that can be embroidered or engraved. Some sort of physical embodiment of this saying will be created. Due to family tragedy, last Christmas felt more like a never-ending marathon than a fun and meaningful holiday. I resolved that Christmas 2014 would be a more mellow, loving holiday that didn't involve hundreds of dollars flushed down the drain on disposable gifts. What are your ideas for meaningful Christmas gifts for family that take some time to make (or not!), don't cost much and might be actually appreciated and used? [more inside]

I'm looking to put together a gift basket filled with college essentials for a soon-to-be college freshman living in the (driving distance from home) dorms for the first time. I can afford to drop some money on this, but the big things (computer, etc) have been covered. I can coordinate with the parents so that there aren't too many doubles of the same thing as well. What did you bring to college that was absolutely worth it?

These people are popcorn purists and it's really hard to get them anything popcorn-related that they don't already have. Their holy grail is "savoy salt," which I've never even heard of.
