Cruise- and wind-friendly game suggestions needed

My partner and I are going on a 10-day cruise to the Caribbean with another couple, and we plan to spend a lot of time lounging outdoors on the pool deck playing board games. We're trying to find games without cards or crucial pieces that will blow away when the wind picks up. Want to know about our preferences? Read further! [more inside]

Wizard Words

There is a game called Dungeon Scroll for Android and Apple devices. You get some times and spell a bunch of words and the score of the words kill various creatures. It's pretty low-tech. I absolutely LOVE this game and have had it for years. I'm trying to find something similar that's maybe a little more sophisticated...saves my game progress as I go, leveling up means something, idk. [more inside]

What are some activities/dates I can do to boost confidence?

I haven't been feeling so confident lately. I know my SO could also be much happier if she felt a bit more confident. When we first met around 3 years ago, we were both extremely confident. Now we seem to have trouble being decisive, making decisions to better ourselves/get necessary things done, and choosing a restaurant or a date idea gets harder and harder. I would love ideas of things that could help with this. [more inside]

Looking for good Let's Plays or tutorials that are minimally twitchy

I find a good Let's Play to be soothing and engaging. I like Minecraft best, but am willing to consider other games that have a similar vibe. I am interested in finding good videos that are relatively mature and fun. I would also consider good tutorial series. Currently I have been watching stuff put out by Paul Soares Jr, and I like it. I have not enjoyed anything by stampylongnose because it is too frantic and clownish. I have not found my way into Far Lands or Bust, but am willing to give it a try. Basically I like watching someone go about their business and talk about whatever while they do it. Do you have recommendations? Can you say what you like about your recommended titles?

How do I go about releasing a card game into print-on-demand format whil

Question: how do I go about releasing a card game into print-on-demand format while retaining commercial rights? (I want to make it available for hobbyists and players, but don't want a company to scoop my design and sell it without attribution). I make card games as a hobby, and want to release them into the wild (so the term goes). I just don't want to yield commercial rights, since there's nothing worse than watching someone pull a Thomas Edison on your Tesla-esque ideas. Some people suggested looking at DrivethruCards.com and a few other places (Cards Against Humanity uses a free-license concept I'd love to know more about).

My son, who will be turning 12 this month just told me that he wants a video game design software program for his birthday. Help me entertain him ... senior stroke version

So, the end result of my previous question was a stroke a week later after the warfarin was readjusted. Monkey pull lever, monkey get what?

Many years ago, I used to play a game on my elderly Mac called "Enigma", by Freeverse. Not the modern Oxyd clone, but a version of Mastermind, where you had to deduce a pattern of colored dots given a certain number of hints. You put in your guess and pulled a lever; the game would taunt you, make weird comments, or throw a monkey wrench into things and screw up your guesses. The premise of the game was that you were solving the puzzles in order to open a golden briefcase. I never did manage to get the briefcase open--can anyone tell me what was inside? [more inside]

Looking for a nonviolent, relaxing, top-down building game with a plot

I liked Sim City, Age of Empires, and Civ, but I don't feel like fighting or freaking out about taxes or earthquakes. Click-management puzzle games and sandboxes are just boring. Glitch was awesome-- nonviolent, open-ended, good graphics-- except it wasn't really a top-down building game and I don't care about involving friends. Katamari Damacy was great, but too fast-paced and again, not a building game. What game am I looking for? Preferably for a PC; can't do zombies or apocalypse as a theme, very light cartoon violence might be OK, don't care what era it's from. Puzzles or video board games might be OK if they have complexity beyond the actual game. I'm aware that this might be too specific; looking for suggestions even if they aren't a perfect fit.

Can anyone help me identify a couple of arcade games?

I spent a lot of time in arcades growing up, and I remember the names of most of the games I enjoyed, but there are two the names of which I have forgotten. This was during the late 80s/early 90s; I was living in Italy at the time, and the games must have been imported. I don't recall perfectly, but I'm guessing the graphics were at least as good as the home consoles which were out around that time. No photos: I'll try to describe them. Help a guy out? [more inside]

What is a good programming tool for developing RPG games?

I want to develop an RPG game based on a non-popular, out of print tabletop RPG - the game I'm developing will be for PC/Mac/(possibly mobile). So far, I'm looking into RPG Maker, which seems to be able to fit the bill most appropriately. I've also looked at Titanium for developing mobile games, but this seems like it's not necessarily a good fit for just hitting the ground running. Any ideas are welcome - priorities are that the system is flexible for development and is easy to begin with (I'm cool with advanced features, but don't want to have to hack the system in order to merely start bringing my ideas to fruition).
