After spending more time on them than he should, my 7 year old has decided that he wants to make his own flash game. I have done the obligatory googling without finding anything obviously suitable.
Are there any applications out there (free or $) designed or suited for kids? I don't imagine that he will be making anything from scratch, but assume there are some drag and drop applications out there with which he can have fun. Thanks.

Advice to an absolute beginner: Should I try to learn Flash and ActionScript for creating games and rapid prototyping of ideas? Or some other technology? Because of iOS, is Flash going the way of the dodo? If I try to learn Flash, will I be painting myself into a tech corner, so to speak?

I feel like learning how to make some simple Flash games, moving up to more complicated ideas later on. I've downloaded/installed ActonScript and Fixel's stuff for programing. Where's a good source for tutorials/guides for learning to do the basics?

I draw paper dolls, and I would like to be able to make a dress-up game in Flash out of them. I can find tutorials about making simple dress-up games easily enough, but I have two questions that none of the tutorials seem to answer: one about linked layers and one about "snapping" the outfit in place.

My 3.5 year old niece loves this site,
Poisson Rouge, which is a flash-based letters, numbers and object game. Can you recommend any others that are similar or that she might like? Thanks.

I'm looking for flash "games" suitable in content for a preschool child (ie: no gore, violence, etc.) where you click the mouse or press a key and something happens, but where you're basically just creating random action. For example, clicking the mouse on the screen might cause a "firework" to deploy or a bubble to be created or burst. Any suggestions?

Trying to find a Flash game that I played a good couple of years ago. It was one of your average sidescrolling fighting games, pitting you against a bunch of baddies, with the somewhat unique catch that nobody had any arms, just hands.

Help me waste my time. I'm trying to find this flash/shockwave game that I used to play religiously a couple of years ago. Individual multi-colored balls or spheres fall from the top of the screen and you use your mouse or arrow keys to move the balls left or right.

A colleague emailed me with an idea for a computer game to illustrate and educate about health care reform in the US, something a la Sim City, but much simpler, just interactive. How would I go about finding and contacting companies or design groups to create the game and get bids?
