I have a gamecube but the only game I have enjoyed immensely is Resident Evil 4. Didn't like the other Resident Evil games' controls and such. Any other games for the 'cube that you can recommend that are first person shooter, whether it be horror/sci-fi like Resiident Evil 4 or maybe a crime game? (Kinda over the WW2 games)...Man, I am a cynical gamecuber, ay...thanks for you thoughts and suggestions. I really appreciate it as I try to get as much use out of this cube as I can.

I'm 40ish. I know nothing about modern gaming. I used to love adventure games back in the 80s like Zak McKraken, KGB and Thermonuclear Wargames. I have some time on my hands and want to take the plunge into the modern world of gaming. Where do I start? [more inside]

Are GameCubes becoming obsolete? Everytime a new game comes out that I think my son would like, I find that it's not being made for the GC platform. Should I purchase a different system?

eBay Supply & Demand question: I'm trying to get hold of some Gamecube Component video cables, which have recently gone out of production and are going for outlandish auction prices. If I wait it out, will demand decrease and the prices go down, or will this item just become even harder to find and therefore even more expensive? [more inside]

We have a family GameCube and the kids want a dance game. Apparently Dance Dance Revolution Mario Mix will be unavailable in North America for several months, and when I go to Best Buy and look at all of the stuff I feel old and confused. Could you suggest a good GC compatible dance pad (that I could pick up retail) as well as DDR-type titles for the GC so my kids can get happy? Thanks --chris

Just bought a used Gamecube and basically every time I try to play it, the device freezes. If I leave it off for a long period of time, I can play for longer before it freezes. I suppose that means it's an overheating issue. I can see some dust inside, but can't get in to clean and check it out because I don't have a Nintendo security bit. Also, right around the time it freezes, the graphics corrupt. Any ideas on how to remedy the problem?

For starters, thanks to everyone who responded to my question about taking the gaming system plunge. It was exceptionally helpful to my wife and I: now have the GameCube and accessories hidden safely for next week.
I was wondering if you have suggestions for titles that would be suitable for a first grade girl. The boys are easy, but our daughter likes painting/drawing and character/puzzle games like Spirit (about the animated horse movie) that are based more on helping. Harvest Moon was suggested, but I can't tell if that is too old for her and I can't get a good fix on the plot line. Any suggestions from the community would be much appreciated, thanks!

Well, the time appears to have finally come. With my kids starting to cross over the 10 threshold I am on the verge of caving in on the gaming console issue. As a kid who wanted an Atari 2600 but got a TI-99/4a it took me a while to realize that gaming consoles are now pretty much part of the background recreation matrix/social experience of kids and not an extravagant extra. Anyway, they get good grades and I wound up working for a while as a game programmer and it did not kill me.
So parenting aside, I was wondering if anyone could suggest some good sources of information on the three major platforms (XBox, GameCube, PS2). The kids told me that their friends mostly have PS2s and that they like the GameCube, but I just want to make sure that, say, in February the next generation of platform hardware won't come out and they stop production of titles for what we get. FWIW their tastes are Backyard sports games, Civilization 3, and Hobbit/Harry Potter type games -- but they remind me that playing those and Zaxxon on the family PC do not a gaming system make. Oh, and there any must-have accessories that we should take care of up front? Cheers.

My nephew's beloved Nintendo GameCube has started malfunctioning. It will play normally for "some period of time" and then stop, unable to read the disc. This happens regardless of the game. How do I get it fixed? Do I get it fixed - or is this a case of just replacing-is-cheaper-than-reparing? Does it go back to Nintendo, or do I have to try and remember where the damned thing came from?

The Super Bowl is coming, I got an NFL game for my GameCube for Christmas, and I'm ready for some football! But while I know very well the rules of the game, I've never really understood the strategy and tactics, so I've never really felt like an armchair quarterback, much less a general of the field. What do all the X's and O's mean? How does the QB read the defense correctly? I'm ready to go beyond watching the game and getting down into the nitty gritty of it all. Where do I start, short of going back in time to high school junior varsity?
