One day in Fresno, let's have fun!

How should I spend my afternoon in/near Fresno next weekend? I'll be in Fresno for about 7 hours next Saturday and I'm looking for something to occupy myself. My usual fallback activity is browsing yarn shops and drinking coffee, but I'm open to other types of stuff, including a driving tour or something. Is Sequoia National Park too far away? What else would you suggest?

Where to hike in March near Fresno for Snow and Fish

Where should we (Me +1) backpack next weekend (Mar 28/29) near Fresno, CA that has SNOW, WATER and FISH? My and my buddy want to stay at least one night - I suppose we could camp the night on Friday at the trail head if we need the extra time.
He wants to fish.
I want to build a snow shelter.
We want to be home Sunday night so we can work Monday.

We are both in excellent shape. He has backpacked several times and this will be my first experience.

He has gear enough for the both of us including snow shoes.

We have talked a bit about hiking somewhere in the Dinky lakes wilderness (island lake?) but I thought I would tap the hivemind to see if we are biting off too much or if there might be a better place to go for what we are looking for.

Thanks in advance!

Get us out of Fresno, CA!

At the last minute, 5 of us (adults) are taking a trip to Fresno, CA for Thanksgiving. We're meeting up with my sister, her husband and their two kids (3 & 1 years old). We don't want to stay in Fresno - We'd like to head somewhere else. Can any of you suggest a destination within 1-3 hours of Fresno? With the 2 kids, we're limited a bit, but not too much. Also, we don't mind just going to a pretty destination and spending time together - In other words, we don't have to be constantly entertained. We'd like to spend Thursday - Saturday. We won't be eating Thanksgiving dinner, so we don't need anything particularly associated with Thanksgiving. I hope I haven't made this too muddled...

Fresno? Ono!

Help me figure out whether I can live in Fresno. I'm considering taking a paramedic internship in Fresno this fall (August/September timeframe) for several months, and I know next to nothing about Fresno except as a place I drive through.

I'm 34, married, with a kid, and the wife and kid would be staying back home in the San Francisco Bay Area while I flew solo in Fresno.

My questions include but aren't limited to:

What are the "nice parts of town" in Fresno, specifically in terms of living conditions?
What are Fresno's cultural attractions (museums, etcetera)?
How much time can I expect to spend on the road "commuting" back home from Fresno?

indian take out in Los Angeles

So some Sunday in mid June I'm going to be driving from Los Angeles to Fresno. I will meeting a vegetarian with a sensitivity to wheat and soy products for lunch. I'm thinking about finding someone in Los Angeles to prepare an Indian tiffin for me. I'll need to pick up the tiffin on Saturday afternoon in order to make it to Fresno in time for lunch. Since this mid-June I'll also pick up a basket of organic cherries. I'm looking for someone who does delicious Indian take out food that can be stored overnight. I'm open to suggestions for non-indian treats.
