I saw this movie on either IFC or The Sundance Channel about 8-10 years ago. It was almost certainly French, though I suppose it's possible it could have been from Belgium or something -- but it had a very, very French feel. Here's what I remember: (some of the memories may be incorrect) [more inside]

Some time ago, on one of the national basic cable movie channels (USA, I think) which would run multiple showings of a given film for a month or so, I repeatedly flipped into a period film that amused me each time I watched a snippet.
Unfortunately, I never watched enough of the film to get a good idea of the plot, and therefore can't effectively describe the story, sooo... [more inside]

I rented this film on VHS in 1999. It is about a younger french girl, living with her mother in a trailer park. Mother is a drunk, they are poor, she tries to get a job at a food stand at one point (??)
There is love interest and conflict and some kind of crisis. I loved this movie and have thought about it often since I saw it but I am afraid that my memories may have started overwriting my recollections.
She is a little bit of a feral child, medium length brown hair, very striking. Please help!

This is a long shot, but my SO is trying to identify a film he saw 15-20 years ago, in France, that he would love to re-watch. Unfortunately, he's forgotten the title. The film may be French, but we're not 100% sure. He doesn't remember any famous actors starring. Can anyone help? Plot inside... [more inside]

I saw this French cop/conspiracy/scandal movie at French camp in the 1970s. Now that I have the awesome power of the internet at my disposal, I'd like to find it again. But I can't. [more inside]

What did early (1900-1920) french film directors actually do? I get the sense from my research that early film directors in France were more like what one associates with producers nowadays. The "director" chose the script, chose the actors and the budget, and then left the execution to a cameraman who basically filmed everything as if he were recording live theater. This explains how someone like Louis Feuillade could "direct" hundreds of films each year. Is this assumption correct? [more inside]

Trying to indentify a film I saw just 10 minutes of yesterday, before falling asleep (was on RTE2 in Dublin).
First scene was a tall blonde in a short dress talking to a short dark haired guy on a bridge over the Seine, about debts owed to a gangster ("30, 35....make it 50 thousand").
Cut to nightclub where the blonde makes 1000 euros a time taking 'gentlemen' to the bathrooms whilst the guy gets drunk at the bar. There was no sex... just scenes of the original guy getting progressively more and more drunk.
The film was relatively recent judging by the nightclub music - but in beautiful black and white... I'd love to see the movie in it's entirety. I checked RTE's website, but it only has listings for today onwards... I'm leaving Dublin this evening - and I cannot find a newspaper from yesterday.

I'm restarting my Netflix queue, and I can't remember the name of a movie I'd like to see again. A car speeds through a small town on the French coast, hits a small child and drives away before anyone can see what happened. [more inside]

French-film-filter: A movie shot entirely from the point of view of the main character, hands reaching out from underneath the camera and all. Early 90s, I think. Remembered spoilers/details below [more inside]

What film is this? It is a french film where the bearded protagonist drives around a French lake in a little boat. He runs into his ex girlfriend who is staying with a family, and they reminisce. It is a great movie.

I'm looking for French films featuring American characters in France. The years I'm most interested in are between 1945 and around 1970, but if there's something more contemporary I'd be glad to know about it too. I've already looked at a bunch of Jean-Luc Godard's films; now I'm looking to branch out.

Help identify a title of a European film about a dance hall in France before, during and past the second world war, with no dialogue. The translated title (In Eastern Europe) was "The Ball." I can't identify it on IMDB.

Haunted by a movie.
About ten years ago I was in France and I saw a chilling suspense movie on late-night TV. I'm not sure that it was French - maybe Dutch or German, with subtitles? I remember little: the music-box/bells theme, the murderer's slow grace, and a scene where the detective fills a room with steam to recover a victim's traced final message. A little more (and a spoiler) inside. [more inside]
