This week, my daughter (a sophomore in high school) will be bidding adieu to her French teacher, who is is retiring. Daughter is artistic and has decided to make a card for Madame but is looking for inspiration.

I'd like to add a Latin or French phrase meaning "from life" (i.e., short for "painted from life") to my signatures on paintings to differentiate my work from artists who rely on photos and video monitors instead of live models for their work. I'd like it to be pithy and idiomatic, and so I'm somewhat reluctant to rely on Google Translate . . .

Bad Economy Filter: In college now, will graduate in 2012 and aim to teach art. The caveat is that it will have taken me 6 years to graduate my undergraduate program because of transferring schools and all the confusion that new majors comes along with. So, here's my question... how do I give myself a leg up? Perhaps superfluous details inside.
