What stores in Paris sell salty liquorice candy? I'm aware of one store (Käramell) that sells the candy by weight, but I'm really looking for a store that sells pre-packaged salty liquorice candy products, such as Venco Topdrop Hard Zout. I've had no luck in any of the chain supermarkets, so have you seen salty liquorice products in any smaller, independent Parisian stores?

What's the French Comics Canon? What are the books it's assumed everyone has read if you read French comics? I've gone through this list, but doesn't really tell you which are held in esteem or are big touchstones/turning points. My reading french is at or near elementary level - short sentences are fine, huge philosophical paragraphs less so.

A friend is traveling to Paris, France to stay for 2-5 days. He's a Bahamian citizen, which seems to indicate he'll need a visa for sure. Here's the twist: he's en route, and may have only a day to try to get any paperwork taken care of. Does he stand a chance of getting a visa through, or should he turn back now? The US French Consulate does not give out visa information by phone, and I've trying contacting Customs and the Police at Charles De Gaulle Airport (+33 1 48 62 31 22). Unfortunately, I don't speak French, and the phone system seems to be unforgiving.

TravelFilter: French Public Transport advice. I'm flying into Marseille MP2 airport and need to find my way to Carpentras near Avignon to meet some friends. I'd prefer not to hire a car as I won't need it while there. My firends might be able to pick me up in Avignon but would be good to get all the way to Carpentras if easy enough (and cheap). Name that film: A noble woman in 18th C. France dresses as a man. I seem to remember her wearing a uniform but am unsure if she's in the military. She sets something of a trend and other women begin to copy her. She meets a man. He doesn't initially know that she's a woman. A love interest develops. I probably saw it on HBO or the like sometime in the mid 80's. It was probably released around the same time.
