Alan Mulally became famous for turning around Ford from the brink of bankruptcy without having to become an ax-man to do it. I am looking for examples of other leaders (CEOs, world leaders, ect.) out there who proved that being successful in business doesn't necessarily mean having to be a jerk. I am going to be doing a research paper on the similarities and differences of each leader's approach.
Hi, recently my 2002 Ford Escort (automatic) has been revving up to 3-4 RPM while I'm driving, and is not very responsive to me stepping on the gas. This is most evident when I'm stuck behind drivers who are constantly slowing down/speeding up, or when I've stopped moving after coming to a complete stop (i.e.: stop lights). Since I've had the car, it's also shook when stopped, but it's never done this until the last several weeks (and has gotten worse today). [more inside]
I was just given a 2004 Ford Focus. I have a clean driving record, am 39, and haven't been insured for 12 years. Any estimates on what tabs, registration, and insurance is going to cost?
I will be living in a city that requires a car for the first time and I'm kind of lost on how to approach this. Help? [more inside]
I asked question on here last week, and I ended up buying a 1995 ford Ranger, but it's missing a stereo ( I guess it was stolen? ) I don't need anything fancy, just something I can put my cassette adapter into (or blue tooth? ) to play my NPR Podcasts while driving. I can get used, ebay, junk yard or whatever, but I'm overwhelmed by my options. Should I get a factory stock 95 ford ranger stereo used? How will other ones fit? (they won't fit right?) Can I install this myself? All the cables still seem to be in tact (I can supply a picture if needed. I just want to do this as inexpensively and hassle free as possible. THanks.
So this poster has re-appeared in time for the upcoming Toronto Mayoral election. Anyone know who did it or if it's possible to buy a print?
So, I think I'm ready to give up my slightly banged-up 2005 Civic. The lady and I would like to get a hybrid, since we're mostly doing city driving (with the occasional weekend jaunt). I've been shopping around and trying a few models out, but I would appreciate any personal experience with these cars... [more inside]
Hi folks, had a low-speed collision in my 2012 Ford Focus. The lady in the car infront of me stopped unexpectedly in the middle of a roundabout and my front end went into her rear bumper (phrasing). Nobody was hurt, no obvious damage, everybody went on their way. However, ever since there has been a small amount of dried fluid appearing on my front bumper. Before I take it to the garage, mechanics of metafilter, can you help me name that fluid? Snowflakes inside. [more inside]
I'm about to pull the trigger on a new 2014 compact car. I've done my research and driven almost everything in the segment in the last year as a rental. It's come down to a Mazda 3 i Touring hatchback with the full tech package. Looking for input based on experience. [more inside]
We have a low mileage 2000 Ford Econoline van which has been running well but now will not turn over. It was just running, turned it off, now it wont turn back on. We had to towed to a mechanic and they said it stated right up and could find nothing wrong, drove it home and same thing. All the electric is fine. Nothing happens when we turn the key, lights don't dim, nothing, but again, all the electric works great. A looses fuse or loose cable is what I would expect but where do we start with something like this? Thanks so much for any ideas.
What should I be doing to extend the life of my car to the year 2056? Seriously, I was gifted a 15 year old car with 110k on it. It is in great shape and I drive less than 5k a year (I work at home). What I am looking for are pointers to keep the car in good shape for a long time given the infrequent use. [more inside]
I'm trying to help a friend locate a replacement LED Left Side Head Light Cluster for a 2006 Ford Mondeo Titanium (as seen in CASINO ROYALE). Preferably in the UK but anywhere would do - sadly everywhere I look has nothing available... thank you all in advance!
Was in awful car accident yesterday. Good news - walked away without a scratch. Bad news - car is now a paperweight. Help me find a new vehicle? Details within. [more inside]
I am in the (unfortunate) position of needing to buy a Ford Econoline passenger van. I'm having trouble evaluating two options in particular: one, a 2001 vehicle with 90k miles on the engine (not the van's original engine), and two, a 2006 with 132k miles. [more inside]
When I burn a CD, some songs that sound fine in iTunes on my computer will inexplicably have between 3-20 seconds of 'silence' at the beginning, thus causing my car's CD player to skip them if I don't fast forward to the actual music...WTF? (do my best to give some Tech Specs inside!) [more inside]
My boyfriend has a 2002 Ford Taurus with 300,000 miles on it. It burns oil and has some impact damage on the front so that you have to remove the plastic grill to open the hood. It needs an inspection sticker and getting one will require a new windshield and possibly some other repairs. He has just purchased a new vehicle and wants to wash his hands of the Taurus. He says I can have it if I want it. [more inside]

I purchased a 2012 Ford Focus and it has been having performance issues that the dealer doesn't want try and fix. Should I risk aggravating the dealer and try to activate Ohio's lemon law or seek some other form of recourse? [more inside]
The front passenger speaker and window control stopped working on my Ford Crown Victoria. The front passenger power lock switch is working fine. The window itself works normally and I can lower it from the driver side control panel. I had to take the whole dashboard apart earlier to replace a heater core so I unplugged a lot of wires. What did I miss when putting it back together? Where do I look?
The rear brakes on my 2010 Ford Fusion, which is still under warranty, have worn out in what seems to me like a premature and unusual way. I have included the details inside and would like your opinion on whether this is an issue I should press with the dealership and/or Ford, or whether I should just fix the brakes and move on. My '08 F-150 likely needs a different engine. I do not want an engine out of a wreck or from the junk yard or one rebuilt by a local shop. I am looking for a remanufactured engine. I have a 2009 Ford Focus SE, 4-door, manual transmission. The driver's side door leaks in the rain and three trips to the dealer have not resolved the problem. I have little faith that yet another trip to the dealer will help. Do you have a specific suggestion to instruct the dealer with? Or how should I go about going over their heads to someone higher in the Ford hierarchy, if that seems to be in order? Details inside to describe my lack of confidence and puzzlement about what to do... [more inside]

I just replaced the radiator on my 2002 Ford Crown Victoria. I filled the coolant reservoir to the cold fill line. Now, if I let the car warm up for 10 minutes, coolant starts leaking out from under the upper radiator hose where it meets the radiator. The hose looks solid, and the hose clamp is on pretty tight so I assume the pressure is just getting really high. Also, if I open up the coolant reservoir cap, liquid coolant starts coming out, not steam. The coolant isn't even that hot. I can stop the radiator hose leak by reducing the amount of coolant in the reservoir, but the coolant level needs to be way way below the cold fill line for that. What is going on? What should I do?
My temp gauge suddenly went to the max and the heater died. I was a couple miles from home (downhill) so I limped home. No water leaking from anywhere. I assume this is coincidence (??), but I very recently had the serpentine belt replaced. In recent days, the car's been a bit stumbly at low RPMs, maybe a bit more in the last couple days. It's a 2000 Crown Victoria (police model), 4.6 V-8. Water pump? Thermostat? Thanks for any thoughts you have to share.
What was the last year that the Ford Country Squire wagon was available with a manual transmission?

I am far from home and my truck is acting up. The speedometer has started flailing around wildly and every so often we'll feel the kick of the transmission (automatic) shifting or falling out of and into gear. I think the problem is electronic as every so often the speedometer starts behaving normally and the transmission settles down and behaves normally. [more inside]
Any European mefites driving the 1.4L petrol Ford Focus? I am thinking at 80PS it might be underpowered. [more inside]
A couple of months ago I bought a used 2007 Ford Ranger. I love the truck but it only came with one key. When I went to the local Ford dealer to see about getting a spare key made, they quoted me a price around $140 because it has the Ford SecuriLock chip built into it. That's a lot of money for a spare key, so I had a spare key made at a hardware store that will let me into the truck in case I lock my key in the cab, but if I would happen to lose my key, I'll be screwed. Is there anyway I can get a spare key from somewhere and program it to work in my truck's ignition without spending $140?

Last year I almost bought a new Volvo c30. I drove one and liked it, but then work got busy and I put the whole thing off until the spring. However, in December Ford announced that they would be selling Volvo to Geely. Geely has apparently has only been manufacturing cars since 1989. This makes me hesitant, even though the BBC report on the sale states: Industry observers say the sale is good news for Volvo. Am I over thinking this, or is the ownership of a car company irrelevant?
What is the song in that Ford commercial that sounds like jazz and the commercial itself is a lot of graphics. It is a commercial that is currently running. Thanks!
I have a 2008 Mercury Mariner. Recently, all of the dashboard lights light up like a christmas tree (and stay lit) and the gauges all sweep to the end and then stop back at zero while I am driving. Once I shut the engine off, the car will not start. This does not happen all the time but enough that it left me stranded twice in the past week. I have replaced the battery. This did not help. Through trial and error, I learned if I hit the alarm button, then attempt to start the car, it will start and I will be able to drive until the entire process repeats itself. I have it at the dealer now and after 72 hours, they still have no idea what's wrong with it. The dealer has said that their diagnostic equipment is identifying "communication codes to cluster" but I have no idea what that means. Any ideas on what could be causing my mysterious Mariner problem? I am in the Northern NJ/Rockland County area (if you have any suggestions for shops to try).
