Food in Marseille

I'm going to be in Marseille for the better part of a week in early August, but won't have a car. If at all possible, I'd like to find a place where I can have a meal that consists of wine, cheese, and bread. Where can/should I do this?

Why are wine bottles named after old, dead, semitic men?

Why are large-format wine bottles predominantly named after biblical figures (e.g. this reasonably comprehensive Wikipedia page)? The answer is not easily forthcoming on either the internet (although Google has been asked "why do wine bottles have biblical names?" before) or in my collection of food-studies books. Any ideas?

Best known quality wine brands in the US?

Need to gift a wine bottle to someone who enjoys red wine. I don't know what type of red. There are so many brands to chose from so since I don't know his taste I would prefer to give something from a recognized winery. Don't want him to think I picked the cheapest red :) Couple of brands that come to mind: Robert Mondavi Kendall Jackson Beringer Budget: up-to $50

3 weeks in Sicily

We're going to Sicily in March, it's time to firm up our itinerary. We fly into Palermo and out of Catania. We plan on spending 3-4 days in Palermo, and then renting a car an setting out being in Catania 2 weeks later. We'd like to stay in two different areas for a week each, day trip to see the sights with a car, staying in an apartment or agriturismo if possible. Where should we head? Interests are history, food and wine. Okay I lie, mostly food and wine. We are two adults and two twin girls who are 11. Not that interested in beaches. Which areas/towns offer the best markets/winieries/classic ruins within an hour drive?

But they know so much about Wine and Chocolates!

In a few days I will be staying with friend's family in western France, at a house they own. I will be in the UK the next few days. Normally I would bring wine or chocolates as a thank you for the accommodation, but France does these much better and cheaper than the UK (I am told). I am Canadian. What could I bring that would still be a great gift, that I could find in London? It should be something like food or drink, and something of benefit to people on vacation. Price about $50. The friends I am visiting are French/Canadian and appreciate quality/luxury

Alternative holiday ideas for New Zealand?

It's a common enough question, what should I do on my holidays in New Zealand? But we're not regular folks so finding good information has been difficult. We have 10 days in late October and we fly in and out of Auckland. We're Australian but well traveled and will most likely stay on the North Island unless some compelling information arises. We've hired a campervan and intend to travel about and camp where we can. Maybe a bed and breakfast or two. Though we are on a budget the main goal is to relax and enjoy the scenery rather than try and cram in too much. [more inside]
