We have 2 cats that are a little less than 2 years old. They are both active and healthy little terrors with no medical issues. One of them seems like she is always hungry. While I get that there are some animals that will whine for food until they drop dead from overfeeding, when I gave her more she seemed happier. However, at that point she gained a little more weight than she should have to remain healthy, so I wanted to find some food that is more nutritious, has less byproducts, more protein and helps them feel fuller.

Cat food filter: When presented with the same brand and same flavor of wet cat food, my cat will wolf it down at my mother's house and at a friend's house, but not at my house. He used to eat it constantly at my house as well, but suddenly stopped last spring. What gives?

I have an older cat who has become a total bastard when it comes to the kitchen. He is constantly on the counter. I run him off and when I leave the kitchen he is back up on the counter almost immediately. He'll eat meat cooking in a frickin' frying pan. Any solutions other than constantly squirting him with water or putting him in a crate while cooking? Closing off the kitchen is not an option.

I understand that the best cat diet is exclusively wet food. Kittens are supposed to eat small portions every few hours. I am asleep all night and at work for 8 hours during the day. Can I leave wet food out for free feeding or will it go bad? What if she won't eat left-out food?

What the heck do I feed my cats to keep them from getting sick? Their tummies are obviously not happy with the new food. Should I switch back to the old unsatisfactory food, or try to find another new food?

Are there secret health risks (toxoplasmosis, Creutzfeldt–Jakob disease, etc) for cat owners who share dishes with their cats? I don't use dedicated dishes to feed my cats, and even if I did, I'd still hand-wash all of our dishes together in the same batch, with the same sponge, so I'm probably failing to remove occasional fragments of beef from the cat food, or small amounts of cat spit. Is there a chance that eating tiny amounts of cat saliva and/or cat food could make me sick?

Our 20 pound monster of a cat had to be injected with a tranquilizer today at the vet. Afterwards, we were told not to give him any food or water until tomorrow. Google searches have turned up plenty of suggestions for how to tranquilize one's pet, but nothing mentioning not letting them eat or drink. We're obviously going to do as the vet says, but this cat has a
darling habit of clawing furniture and knocking things off shelves when his dish is empty, so I can't help but wonder why. Any ideas?

I want to make my own homemade, raw meat (chicken and rabbit) cat food. My girlfriend thinks it's a bad idea. Almost everything I can find on the interwebs suggest that feeding a cat a
BARF (biologically appropriate raw food) diet is healthy for the cat.
This wiki suggests that there is no scientific evidence pointing to a clear resolution - in the references section there are some vets arguing one way or the other, but nothing concrete. Has anyone been there, done that, or have any other advice?

CatFilter: We've just taken in a friend's cat for two weeks. Unfortunately, it turns out that this cat is fed dry food twice a day, while our cat just grazes at her dry food all day. The visiting cat has no self-control over food and so we can't just leave our cat's food out, as it'll get eaten and make the visiting cat sick. Can my cat adapt to regulated feeding on such short notice? If she doesn't get enough to eat, until she learns to adapt, will there be side effects? I'm at a total loss here as to what to do.

My cat is ~2 years old and has been fed wet food all her life. I've finally tired of the smell and inconvenience of it all and decided it's time for her to eat dry food (as it's better for her teeth anyway). Only problem is, she refuses to eat the dry food I've given her. I've tried two different brands, tried pouring the juice from her grody cat food over the dry stuff, and she hasn't really eaten in almost a week. The people at my pet store keep telling me to just try like, 35 different kinds of food, but I certainly don't have the money to do all that. Any suggestions on how to make a picky cat surrender the hunger strike?

My cat almost always shows an interest in people food - until you offer it to her, upon which, almost invariably, she will sniff it and look disappointed. This happens even with uncooked chicken and tuna from the can. Also, whenever we open a can, she runs frantically into the kitchen and tries to see up on the counter - she eats dry cat food, and I've tried to serve her wet food, but no dice on that. Do cats really remember a specific food from the past? Is she hoping for something gross I would never buy, like canned pigs feet or something? Or was she perhaps posioned by people food and distrusts it now? She came from a shelter a couple of years ago (found in a motel) so I have no idea what her background is.
