Is it possible to disable the Windows XP slideshow folder view, or at least set it to not be default? I want to do this without disabling custom folder views; I know I can set all folders to display a certain way (I like tiles), but I'd like to be able to give some folders their own custom view settings (i.e. I like showing my mp3 folder as detail view with custom columns)

My music album folder contains ~1000 folders in it. It's stored on a large external hard drive. It suddenly began only displaying the first 287 folders, ordered alphabetically. [more inside]

XP: Vanishing Folders -- Sometimes I put a tilde (one of these ~) in front of a folder name to alphabetically move it to the top of a folder list. These folders, I'm now realizing, are vanishing on me. Any idea why? Any idea where to find them?
