My employer and I just agreed that I am not a good fit for the job. What should I do? I'm in Ontario, Canada.
I realize that similar questions have asked, but am specifically looking for answers that take Canadian law into account. Thanks! [more inside]
I was recently dismissed from a new full time job less than 3 months after starting it.
A recent note from HR has kindly offered to reclassify the position as a temporary one if it would help me. Is this wise? It sounds like I can go forward without the stigma of being fired but will it affect unemployment, or anything else I don't know about?
(It was a bit of a shock, tho it wasn't a great fit. Wisconsin is an at-wlll state and there were no issues of misconduct. )

My performance review was terrible and they almost fired me. I was given six months to shape up. But I was on disability for 50% of the work period and I don't want to get fired while I'm still in rehab. What to do? [more inside]
I was just terminated after 89 days from a job that I moved 550 miles to accept. I have no savings -- they were spent on the move -- and two weeks' severance pay (about $1,300). I have no family or friends in this city. What are my next moves? [more inside]
A good friend has been fired from her low paid private school job in the Cleveland Ohio area and is looking for advice on what she needs to do in the short term.
She works in a somewhat hard to find work in field (music therapy for children)
She's in her mid 40s and is single, no dependents.
Her health insurance will run out at the end of this month.
Her salary is perhaps 30k, maybe lower.
She has no savings but family in the area who will likely help w/ rent, etc.. but they are limited as well in what they can do financially to help her as they are retired on a fixed income.
What are concrete steps she should take in order to make sure she has:
health care (medicaid? ACA exchange insurance since she had a qualified life event?)
unemployment insurance (what separation reason should she ask for for her employer NOT to fight this?)
food stamps (if they exist any more for single people)
links to possible sources of jobs in her field
My job is trying to counsel me out for "performance" issues. I think this is unjustified, but either way, the relationship is over. How do I position myself to end my employment on the best terms for me? [more inside]

The CEO of my company is kind of... mercurial, and given to dramatic gestures. I've been overhearing yelling about productivity and firing people (their office is right next to mine and their voice carries). Yesterday I heard my name mentioned. I am... not in a great position to get a new job. Help me plan for the worst? [more inside]

I gave two weeks' notice at my work last Friday after over two years of committed service. The next day I received a phone call from my boss telling me I wouldn't be needed. I am paid by the hour and had these two coming weeks factored into my budget. I need the income to pay my bills. I live in Ontario and I wonder what I'm owed, if anything. [more inside]

I was fired from a retail job back in 1994. I worked there 6 months. The firing could have been argued but I left. I have a job interview tomorrow requiring a background check. I don't want to lie but I don't want to tell the truth as it is so damn long ago and a ridiculous thing....and that job is long long long gone from resume replaced with great work and academic history. Does a routine background check dig up that old dirt? Thanks for your time and have a good week.
Is my depressed partner about to get fired? Can I help him improve work habits or fix the depression so as not be fired? And how can I cope with my worries about this (and consequently, our financial future) -and in particular, bring them up to him- without blaming him for his job uncertainty, implying that he's bad at his job, or increasing his depression? I was let go from my job last week - it was kind of a surprise, but I'm bouncing back and I was looking to leave the company anyway, so I'm not too broken up about that. I am not thrilled about the prospect of job hunting while unemployed (would have preferred to have landed a new job first) and am trying to get a handle on my next steps. I have some Networking 101-type questions that I need help with, as well as some questions about how best to frame what happened at the last job to recruiters/prospective new leads/interviewers, and how to best avoid ever being in this same situation ever again. I was "let go" from work the other day - I had already been on probation due to a bad review. The review was full of incorrect statements, which I had proof of but I didn't put up a fuss. I was given requirements to fulfill to show improvement. I met those times 3. They let me go anyway. I said that I had gone way farther even than I was asked to in the requirements, so why are you letting me go? The reason was "The decision has been made." I want to know, is this considered with cause, and can I get unemployment? BTW this is in Mass. [more inside]
